MotoeXotica Classic Cars has the solution; we are proud to present this one-owner, manual transmission Acura NSX with 24,582 original miles. Assembled in Tochigi, Japan, it was bought new at Acura of Ramsey, in Suffern, New York. Car was first titled on November 16, 1990 with 31 miles on it.
When this car debuted in 1990, it quickly became a hot commodity among enthusiasts, collectors and those with the financial means to buy one. NSXs are a somewhat rare find as Acura only exported slightly more than 9,000 of them to the US during its initial 15-year run and this one, the 683rd available for sale in the US, is even more unique because it has three pedals!
Atlantic Motorcars out of Houston, Texas, bought the car from Acura of Ramsey. Then it was sold to Motorcars by Corporate International of Springfield, Missouri with 413 miles on the odometer. Next, the previous owner out of Sturgis, Kentucky, purchased the car on February 8, 1991, with 415 miles on the clock. He must have been one of the first US owners and someone who highly desired this car because he paid $10,000 more than MSRP and Motorcars was one of the only dealers at that time that had one available in red with a manual transmission.
A week after the previous owner bought the car, Acura of Springfield, Missouri installed an optional compact disc changer and a nose mask. On July 26, 1991, the owner took the car to Acura at Oxmoor in Louisville, Kentucky for its 7,500-mile service. On February 19, 1998, he took the car in for its 18 month/22,500-mile service. On November 8, 2001, he brought the car in to correct noise when radio was on. On September 7, 2016, he had the car’s air-conditioning refrigerant converted from R12 to R134a and charged, replaced the audio head unit, four hood stays, a multi-point inspection and installed a miscellaneous front fascia.
This car came with the following equipment standard – 3.0L DOHC 24-valve V-6 engine with VTEC; five-speed manual transmission with twin plate clutch and tachometer; forged aluminum double wishbone suspension, front and rear stabilizer bars and gas pressure shock absorbers; forged aluminum alloy wheels, limited-slip differential; four-wheel ventilated disc brakes with four-channel ABS; driver’s side airbag with tilt and telescopic steering column; traction control; automatic climate control; cruise control; intermittent windshield wipers, Bose acoustically-tuned music system; leather seats, steering wheel and door panel inserts; four-way power seats; power mirrors; integrated rear spoiler; theft-deterrent system; retractable halogen headlights; rear window defroster; remote fuel filler door and trunk lid releases; pre-wiring for optional CD changer and mobile phone.
Dressed in Formula Red (code R-77) paint with a black roof, the car’s low-slung body (based on the F-16 fighter jet) is in good shape. The paint is in very good condition, with minimal blemishes visible upon close inspection. All of the glass panels are intact and scratch-free and the lights are in good order. The car rolls on its original Toyo Proxes Z1 tires, 205/50ZR15 in front and 225/50ZR16 in back, which have some dry rot due to age. The tires surround forged aluminum alloy wheels in good condition. Its body panels are straight and in good order, including the bumpers, and the engine bay and front compartment are extremely tidy.
In that bay is Honda’s 3.0L DOHC V-6 engine (C30A1-1300813) with VTEC, 270 horsepower and 210 lbs-ft of torque and it is hooked to one of the best-shifting modern manual transmissions on the planet. No one makes a manual that shifts like a Honda.
Inside, the car’s clean, cozy, cockpit beckons you and a friend to take a spin via the scenic route. The black leather buckets (Type E) are in excellent condition and the driver’s seat shows small evidence of wear on the left side upper bolster, as is typical in even low-mileage examples and testimony to how much fun can be found behind the wheel of this supercar. The matching carpet, the headliner, dashboard, steering wheel, gear shifter and center console are all in fine condition, as are the car’s mirrors. Completing the interior is an Acura Bose AM/FM acoustically-tuned stereo with cassette deck and optional CD changer. Car comes standard with driver’s side airbag and active seat belt. This interior from 1991 is still very crisp and still has a new car smell.
The Acura NSX origins trace back to 1984, with the HP-X (Honda Pininfarina eXperimental) concept, which was a mid-engined 3.0L V-6 engined rear wheel drive sports car. Honda committed to the project, with the intention of meeting or exceeding the performance of the then-V-8 engined Ferrari range, while offering reliability and a lower price point. The concept thus evolved and had its name changed to NS-X, which stood for “New Sportscar eXperimental, although the production model was launched as the NSX.
The NSX was designed by a team led by Chief Designer, Masahito Nakano, and Executive Chief Engineer, Shigeru Uehara. It benefited from advanced aerodynamics and styling inspired by a F-16 fighter jet cockpit and input from the late Formula One World Champion, Ayrton Senna, during the final development stages.
This NSX became the world’s first mass-produced car to feature an all-aluminum body. It was powered by an all-aluminum 3.0 L V6 engine, which featured Honda’s VTEC (Variable Valve Timing and Lift Electronic Control) system developed in the 1980s, a five-speed manual or four-speed Sports Shift automatic transmissions. It was presented at the 1989 Chicago Auto Show and was built in a purpose-made factory in Japan in 1990 until production ended in 2005. Famous NSX Owners include:
