alfa romeo 156, 2001, v6 2.5, 6 speed, runs great!
2001 Alfa Romeo Other 156 v6 Description
We have owned this car for 13 years, bought it with only 17,000 miles. My wife drove it as her sole transportation for 10 years. We have lived on our boat in the Caribbean for the past year and my wife said, "This works for me, sell my car!" Otherwise we would never part with the amazing car.
The car was legally imported by a foreign national as his personal transportation. The car magically acquired a Wisconsin title and we have owned it ever since. I am selling the car with a clear, Wisconsin title. This car does NOT plug into OBD2. If your area requires OBD2 emission testing, you will have to get creative. It always passed tailpipe emission testing.
Now more about the car. It runs great, you can fly to Milwaukee and drive it home. We have replaced the exhaust with some cherry bombs and it sounds delightful if not a bit loud. My wife loved it and didn't think it was too loud. Teenage boys will gape until you drive out of sight! I will try to put a Youtube video on that shows a burnout and the exhaust song. This car has record light weight with cast magnesium seat frames, etc. The steering is also a record low ratio, lock-to-lock. Rear door handles are hidden, yes, it is a 4 door.
If you have read this far, you must know there are no parts for this car in the US. EB Spares in England is a very good parts supplier and you can get anything in 3 days. Parts are not expensive. At 100,000 miles I replaced all the moving parts on the front of the engine, water pump, all pulleys and tensioners and belts. The clutch and both hydraulics were replaced within the last few years. Radiator is only a few years old. I replaced all the springs and shocks with Bilsteins a few years ago too. There are some spare brake pads in the trunk.
The body is very good. I took a picture of the only questionable spot, some rust on the rocker and front door edge. There are some flecks in the hood where stone chips went through to the primer but no rust. There are various door dings and one of the paintless dent remover guys quoted me $210 to remove them.
Please excuse the wheels in the pictures. These are 15" wheels from my daughter's 164 with snow tires. I have the original 16" wheels with tires and an aftermarket 17" set with tires. Both sets are very cool. I need to track them down from where they are in storage but am quite sure they are available with the car.
Now for the negatives: The immobilizer (chip in the key and code reader) sometimes won't unlock the car's computer. There is a bypass procedure that works fine and will always get you home. I usually wait 5 minutes and try again, it works. The lower steering column trim is in the trunk, I had it off fussing with the immobilizer. A new "antenna" that wraps around the lock is about $50.
Power steering is weak and we had to add fluid every month. Just a minor problem at parking speeds, not a problem once the car is moving. Steering is fantastic and very tight. The gear shift has some friction in lateral movement and the spring doesn't quite pull the lever to the center position. When you shift from 2nd to 3rd, you have to move the lever slightly to the right. A seam in the driver's seat bottom has opened up (visible in pictures). The leather is not ripped and can easily be restitched.
Please note, the serial number above is not the correct one. Ebay would not accept the actual serial number because it does not appear in any US data base, duh! The actual serial number that is on the car and the title is ZAR93200000059741.
The car is sold as is. You may ride in the car prior to bidding, just north of Milwaukee. Any shipping is the buyer's responsibility but we can take it to a nearby terminal if needed. I make only one guarantee about this car. Within 10 minutes of you turning the key, you will learn to drive like an asshole all over again!
