1989 Alfa Romeo Milano Verde Description

1989 Alfa Romeo Milano Verde

I’ve owned the car only six months and am reluctantly selling it to pay for some home renovations. I hope to own a Milano again in the future as it is the perfect balance between a grand-tourer and sports car. With 234,900 miles on the chassis and 47,000 miles on a professionally rebuilt engine, it is a great driver, as opposed to a garage queen.

The car has a clear British Columbia title in my name and is located in Vancouver, BC CANADA (ebay would not allow me to input the exact location). Being over 25 years old and in excellent original condition, I recently applied for and received Collector license plates. It is originally a U.S. car and have all import paperwork, which would facilitate an easy return to the U.S. The car also meets emission regulations in all 50 states and was previously registered in California.

Engine, Transmissions and Mechanicals

The famous 3.0 L Busso V6 revs freely throughout its range. Please see the links for a video that shows a cold-start after the car had not been driven for 6 days and a video of the engine revving.

It was professionally rebuilt in 2010, less than 50,000 miles ago by a previous owner. Work was performed by Group 2 Motorsports in Seattle. I just had new motor mounts installed and had an experienced L-Jetronic mechanic tune-up the system. Accessory belts were also just replaced. Rubber hoses are in good condition and appear to have been replaced at the time of the rebuild. Engine compression reads between 160 and 180 psi across all cylinders.

One year ago the car received a new timing belt and tensioner, brake system flush, oil service, water pump, thermostat, fuel injector and induction system cleaning, as well as a cooling system flush.

The car shifts smoothly through all gears. Shifting from first to second needs to be done slowly until the car comes up to full operating temperature to avoid grinding (this is common even in almost new Milanos). There are no vibrations from driveshaft to indicate a failing guibo, donuts or other critical trans-axle components. The clutch feels good and has progressive engagement.

Brakes work well (including the ABS – which is quite rare for a Milano). New front rotors were just installed for the sale.

Suspension feels slightly stiffer than the OEM setup and cornering is very flat thanks to Koni shocks on all four corners and performance rear springs. Around town the ride is still very comfortable.

The car comes with a thick stack of service records dating back to 1991. It has clearly been regularly and well-maintained during its lifetime.

Electronics

All electronics work in the car except for the ARC panel, which has been disconnected, the fuel gauge never reads higher than 1/4 full, the stereo is not currently connected. The windows and sunroof work sluggishly, but reliably. Air conditioning blows cool, but not ice cold.

Interior

Less than one year ago all seats were re-upholstered with correct reproduction fabric from Centerline International. They are in perfect condition. The dashboard has one small crack (see photo). There is slight cracking on the vinyl material at the top of the door where it meets the glass (shown in the photos). The headliner is new and the center console has been recovered. The car also comes with the original luggage boxes, repair kit and first aid kit.

Exterior

Overall the car shows well, but there is clear-coat peel in several places, a few minor scratches, and minor orange peel on the front bumper (see photos). I have taken photos both with and with-out a flash so you can see the condition of the paint in different light conditions. Some of the marks that show up are hardly noticeable in natural light.

When I purchased the car, there was minor cosmetic damage to the passenger-side rear and front door that was caused by the automated underground parking structure of the previous owner. A trusted body-shop smoothed out the slightly bent panels and repainted. The work looks great (no evidence of damage) and comes with a lifetime warranty. The car has a clear title and was has not been involved in any previous accidents.

There is no rust on the car.

Wheels are original 15” Speedline alloys. There is some clearcoat peel and light curb rash (see photos). They are wrapped in all-season Bridgestone Potenzas that are two years old with lots of life left. Wheels were just balanced and the car drives and brakes straight.

The car drives great and I would not hesitate to take in a long-distance trip. Enjoy as a worry-free driver/weekend cruiser, or repaint it and bring the car to the next level.

Auction Rules and Shipping

I am an automotive enthusiast of modest means. When purchasing a car I am often dependent on the honesty of the seller to ensure that I’m not going to break my bank account with repair costs shortly after the purchase. I am striving to be honest and transparent with my Alfa Romeo for prospective buyers.

This is a 7 day auction and will sell to the highest bidder at its conclusion. I have set the reserve price low to reflect the mileage and overall condition of the car

A non-refundable $500 deposit is required within 24 hours of auction end. Full payment via bank wire or certified bank check is due within 7 days of auction end.

No warranties or guarantees are expressed or implied. This is a 28 year old car.

I can assist with loading the car for shipment, or will pick you up from Vancouver International Airport if you choose to fly in and drive the car home. On Feb-27-17 at 22:56:52 PST, seller added the following information:

Correction on the Brakes:The ABS master cylinder and special pedal box were removed and replaced with a conventional vacuum based brake system and matching pedal box by a previous owner. This is a common modification made to Milanos. (Most people prefer the conventional brakes.)
