I am selling my 1977 AMC Gremlin, in the six years that I have owned it, it has been garage kept. I purchased it from the state of Florida. If you love odd and quirky, you will love this car. The Gremlin was sold by AMC from 1970 through 1978.
My Gremlin has a 6 cylinder 258 cu engine. I have owned this car forsix years and it is time for someone else to enjoy it as much as I have. The previous ownerrebuilt the engine, redid the interior, painted the car red and really restored the car. For a40 year old car, it is in great shape. There are some minor issues with the car that can be fixed easily and inexpensively. The paint is worn in some spots and it should be repainted. The carhas some rust, but nothing that affects the structural integrity of the car. The only "major" problem with the car is that is has a transmission fluid leak. My mechanic tells me that it needs a new seal. Have replaced intake and exhaust manifold gaskets, replaced heater core, heater hoses, repaired AC hose and recharged system, new master cylinder, carburetor, distributer, coil, replaced engine mounts, replaced thermostat, replaced water pump, Removed the gas tank sending unit and replaced float. Think that all about sums up all the repairs since 2011.
The car runs beautifully, although it is a little hard to start after it has been sitting for a while. It runs and stops with no problems and is a fun car to drive. It has never been a trailer queen, although not a daily driver. Never crashed and never abused, the car has a very retro interior and it has an AM/FM radio. The radio is not original to the Gremlin, but came from a 1970's AMC Hornet. It has some other minor issues the passenger door handle is tough to open, but does open, just hard, the rubber around the rear window/hatch is the wrong size so the rear window/hatch does not lock, but overall the car is in good shape. Theclear coat is coming off which you can really see on the hood and the top.I do have the OEM metal rear panel valance (the entire area around the tail lights), also have a luggage rack that I purchased very used that I never even attempted to have put on. When I got the car it had two aftermarket driver side and passenger side mirrors, however I found an OEM driver side and replaced that one.
When people see it on the street, everyone wants to talk about it. I am amazed by the number of people that tell me that they or a family member had one ion the seventies. It is definitely a head turner and a great conversation piece. The car has been to several car shows and has won trophies for crowd favorites. (The trophies will go with the car to the new owner). I am selling it because I am concentrating on fixing up an old 96 RV. I hate to see this car just sitting there. It needs a new owner who will give it the love that it deserves. The actual mileage on the car is 107739. It is a five digit odometer, so it has turned once.
The car is for sale locally and I reserve the right to end this auction early if it sells. $500 deposit via PayPal and the remainder in cash or certified check. I will not sign the title over to the new owner nor will the Gremlin be taken away from my home until all funds clear. Additionally,I will not sell it with an open title. I have tried to describe it to the best of my ability. If you have any questions, please ask. I will answer them promptly.
