Offered for sale is my 1995 Audi A6 Avant. I have owned this car for 5 years during which time I have clocked up just over 20,000 miles, taking the odometer to just under 123,000. Before this I have owned 3 other C4 Audi A6 Avants over the past 17 years. I put a lot of effort into choosing this car before I bought it and have spent ‘000s of dollars overhauling and maintaining the car into what it is now: a highly reliable load or people carrier which is also very economical.
Firstly the car itself. In 1995, this car was pretty much the top of the Audi range offered in the USA. Very highly spec’d, the car cost over $50k when new. It features everything considered an essential luxury at the time (if that is not a contradiction in terms!) Heated front leather seats, leather steering wheel and gear lever, Bose sound system, Sony 10 disc CD multichanger stereo, climate control, electric tilt slide sunroof and windows, cruise control, 7 seats and so on. The adaptive automatic gearbox and locking rear differential combined with the legendary Audi Quattro 4 wheel drive system provides safe, predictable handling in all road conditions.
Since I bought it I have had the timing belt water pump and auxiliary belt changed at 96,000. All the brake discs and pads were changed last year. The climate control unit was broken and replaced, as well as the AC radiator which was replaced and the system recharged two years ago. All new brake discs and pads were also fitted 2 years ago. A new battery was fitted when I bought the car and is still 100%. I also had a tow bar installed. New Firestone Affinity Mud and Snow tire were fitted last year and still have plenty of tread and life left in them.
I am including a Haynes workshop manual with the car so that you can tackle any maintenance or repairs with confidence!
In short the car is excellent and ready to go another 120,000, which it is well capable of. So why am I selling it? The car has an intermittent fault triggered by the catalytic convertors which makes the check engine light go on and the car loses power. Stopping the car and turning the ignition on and off clears the fault and allows you to motor on until the time when/if it returns. Some days I can drive 75 miles without it occurring, other days it only goes 10 miles before having to stop and start the engine. Now while I am not bothered by this minor fault, by wife is not the most patient of people and told me to get rid of the car, so that is what I am doing! I spoke to my regular VW/Audi garage (Bruno’s in Middle Village, NY) and he diagnosed the fault as turbulence in the cats triggering the O2 sensor. The fix therefore is to replace them, which would cost less than $340 with new Bosal items from ebay, or you could just continue to drive the car and restart the engine when the fault appears.

Good Points
Great comfortable long distance cruiser and load carrier. Very solid, sound condition, inside and out. Low mileage (average 6,000 miles per year). Well maintained and reliable: oil changes every 7,000 miles and tune ups (filters, plugs etc) every 10,000. Starts every time and never lets you down, perfect for the approaching winter months ahead.
Bad points
Apart from the catalytic convertor issue, there are a few niggles that I would like to make you aware of in the way of full disclosure. There is a small dent on the front drivers side fender behind the turn indicator. The front headlamp washers and rear windshield washer do not work. Inside there are a few areas of wear to the seats as well as a few squeaks and rattles, and outside there are a few dents and scratches as one would expect from a 21 year old car, I have tried to capture these in the photos
IF THE CAR IS SOLD USING THE BUY IT NOW OPTION, I WILL INCLUDE A WEATHERTECH RUBBER LOAD AREA LINER AND A FEW SPARE PARTS WHICH I WAS GOING TO SELL SEPARATELY!
Please note the car is advertised locally in New York and I may end the sale early if I get a good offer. Car can be inspected/driven in New York 10025 until the auction ends. If you have any questions, please ask. Happy bidding!

Apart from the catalytic convertor issue, there are a few niggles that I would like to make you aware of in the way of full disclosure. There is a small dent on the front drivers side fender behind the turn indicator. This could be knocked out by a paintless dent removal. The front headlamp washers and rear windshield washer do not work, the wipers do however and have just had new blades fitted. Inside there are a few areas of wear to the seats as well as a few squeaks and rattles, and there is a small (2" square) patch of carper in the passenger footwell which has been melted by bleach or something. On of the string mesh storage pockets on the seatback is a bit saggy but stil works. Outside there are a few dents and scratches as one would expect from a 21 year old car, I have tried to capture these in the photos
