2004 Audi TT Base Convertible 2-Door Description
I am the founder of what I believe is the first Audi TT Club in the USA. I was also the featured Audi TT owner in Audi Magazine, when the car first came out. I have also been quoted in the UK's Car Magazine. So you might say I'm into cars and I love the Audi TT. In fact, this was my 3rd TT and I recently bought my 4th, a 2016 Mythos Black TT Roadster that's gorgeous.
But you know what? I love this car. Yes, this specific car, which is why I've been the sole owner for over 163,000 miles and roughly 13 years. Interestingly, while it sounds like high mileage, according to CARFAX, that's considered low mileage, or just over 12,000 miles per year.
I've really babied this car and I think this comes out when you look at the photos. You'll have a very hard time finding a car of this age in this kind of condition. And it seems to run pretty much like Day 1.
Just about everything works and the car is very clean and looks great.
Here's something that I think makes this car pretty unique, in fact, perhaps the only one like it in the world. When the first TT came out around 1999, the car handled like a go cart. But later, Audi did a recall on the car, changing the suspension, adding a spoiler, and modifying the steering by changing the front, lower control arms which really dumbed down the steering response. The car's steering went from going just where you pointed it before, to feeling sluggish due to the fat bushings that Audi added. Guess what I did? I kept the original, pre-recall control arms on my 2000 TT, transferred them to my 2001 TT, and then finally to this 2004 TT. Few, if any other TTs have this. Does it make a difference in the steering and handling of the car? Absolutely huge, in my view. Are these old control arms "dangerous". Not in my opinion. I think Audi made a big mistake swapping them in the first place. In fact, I know a guy who said he'd pay "at least" $1,000 just forthese very rare control arms. If you don't like them, you can replace them, but I'll bet you'd have wished that you hadn't.
That story aside, the engine runs strong and I am not aware of any engine problems. The transmission seems perfect and I am also unaware of any transmission or drivetrain issues. So fundamentally, it seems sturdy and strong and is driving great right now. The tires are nearly new. The glovebox has been replaced as has the instrument cluster, radio cover, etc.
In terms of optional items, I have a European spec Audi OEM blindspot mirror on the left side view mirror, which really reduces the left blind spot, I have a non-OEM leather armrest, which matches the baseball optic interior, I mentioned the control arms, which are OEM, but pre-recall. I've also installed the aluminum Euro-Spec paddle shifters, which I think look nicer than the plastic ones.
The TT's throaty 3.2l 247 hp 6 cylinder normally aspirated engine is fantastic. I can set off car alarms at 5 mph in a car garage. It runs, feels, and sounds great. Know what? I like it better than my 2016's turbo 4 cylinder engine. They literally don't make them like this anymore.
I believe that this car had just about every option offered on it originally. While it has things likenavigationand phone, they're candidly old school and probably not much use to you.
In terms of maintenance, all repair work was done at Audi San Diego and I can authorize the release of records, if need be. Only synthetic oil has been used and the oil was changed every 5,000 miles, mostly by the dealer, but a couple times at Oil Changers. The battery is only a few months old. The air conditioner was replaced in September 2016. The dash-mounted stereo is only a few months old, but the changer has issues. Might just need a cleaning, but could require replacement. I've seen them very cheap on Ebay. In short, this car has been well-maintained and I've put a lot into fixing things that needed to be fixed. While it's been awhile, the top has also been replaced.
CARFAX is clean and it shows the history of the car. If you wish to see the car's CARFAX, it can be viewed at the following url:CARFAX
I'm going to really miss this car. I mean that sincerely. I want to see it go to a good home to someone who will enjoy it as much as I did. I think you'll have a great carwith plenty of life left and a lot of good times ahead. Put that top down and listen to the 3.2 roar while you carve up the curves in the road!
Now the disclaimers:
While it looks and runs great it has DTC codes for emissions. Sometimes it's O2 sensor(s) and can be coded out using VAG-COM but I am not sure. Since it can't be registered in California this way, I have to limit the sale to non-California residents only.
This TT was recently struck from behind. I took pictures, and it looks to need bumper and valance work. It does not make sense for me to put more money into a car that I won't be keeping.
The way I'm pricing this, I think you'll end up with a very nice car. You might see some touch-up paint here and there. Not every mark was professionally repaired, but it looks good overall and the photos illustrate this. It's not a new car, so there could be little things here and there, such as a broken antenna, for example.
Clean carfax as accident does not show up but I wanted to disclose so there are no future issues and I've linked to that report. Autocheck is a little strange as anything that ever happened to the car like minor door dings being repaired or a piece of road debris that scuffed the plasticskid plate show as an "accident".

I have no negative feedback so bid with confidence. If you wish to inspect the vehicle at your expense, you may do so prior to the auction's end. No inspections after you've won the auction. As I mentioned, I love this car. I hope you will too. I'd love to find it a good home. Thanks for your interest and good luck!
