1997 BMW M3 sedan - low miles, stock, beautiful condition
1997 BMW M3 Description
Excellent condition, mechanically stock, 1997 BMW E36 M3 sedan. Only 107k miles, automatic transmission. Arctic Silver exterior with a Black Nappa leather interior. Manual front sport seats with BMW M-stripes.
Usual assortment of features, with the addition of heated seats & mirrors, the full 18-button on board computer, cruise control, sunroof, and pre-wiring for the CD changer in the trunk. Owned by long-term BMW CCA/MBCA/PCA member with lots of other German cars. This has been my nice-day car, and to make sure I always had something to drive that was reliable and always worked.
I bought the car in December 2012 from a local Washington DC seller with 101k miles. While I have owned it the car has been maintained by me or one of the best local BMW independent shops, ABS in Alexandria, Virginia.
Excellent mechanical condition. I fixed a lot of the E36 failure points, as well as did a lot of normal maintenance. According to the seller I bought the car from (he was second owner), the first owner had driven the car very little for the last years that he owned it, so there were a number of maintenance items that needed to be done. So I took care of everything, including an all new cooling system (hoses, radiator, water pump, thermostat, etc.), belts/tensioners, front brake pads & rotors, vapor expansion tank and pressure sensor, fuel injectors, ignition coils, rear shocks, O2 sensors, fuel pump, and replacement of all fluids (engine oil, transmission, diff, power steering). Car runs and drives very well.
For those of you who wish this car had an automatic transmission instead of a manual, I understand…..but if you haven’t driven an automatic, you might be surprised by how well it works in the car (especially in DC traffic). This is coming from someone who has owned many BMWs with manual transmissions (including my current M coupe). 98% of the time I love having the automatic; the other 2% of the time I miss the manual, but I get over it pretty quickly.
Interior is very clean; no rips or tears, everything looks very nice. Very little bolster wear on driver’s seat. Door panels are in nice condition. This car does not have the Luxury Package, but I did add some items from that package: the wood trim on the dash on the passenger side, around the shifter, and inside the storage box in the console. It also has a wooden shifter from a BMW E39. The wooden trim pieces add some nice warmth to the all-black interior, but you can change it all back to stock in about 10 minutes if you want (I have the original pieces).
The only other non-stock piece is the stereo; it was updated to a Sony head unit with more modern amenities like Bluetooth and USB/iPod connections (speakers are stock). The display is color-matched to the other instruments so it does not stick out. Again, you can return it to all stock very quickly if you want, and I have the original stereo.
Body is clean with no dents, dings or rust. No known accidents. Minor wear and tear commensurate with age and mileage. All body VIN stickers are in place (doors/trunk/hood). Wheels are stock M Double Spoke II (Style 39), and although they are clean and straight they are cosmetically only average.
If you look closely you will notice it has standard E36 external mirrors (in black), which I put on because I didn't think the M3 ones provide enough visibility. Car will be sold with the stock M3 mirrors; I forgot to replace them before taking pictures.
I have a clean title in my name.
