2001 BMW 5-Series Base Wagon 4-Door Description

I purchased this 2001 525i wagon in July 2005 as a "Certified Pre-Owned" one-owner car with a clean CarFax from BMW of Fairfax, VA with 30,800 miles. Today the car has gone ~ 103,000 miles.

The body and interior have ~ 103,000 miles on them, but the current engine only has~ 35,000 miles on it. In June 2012, at about 68,000 miles, a belt failed while I was traveling at highway speed in a place where I couldn't stop, and the engine overheated and seized. I bought an identical reconditioned BMW 2.5 engine with a lifetime parts warranty from Bavarian Auto Recycling in Rancho Cordova, CA, which was installed by BMW of Newport, RI. The new engine has run perfectly since.

Ongoing and regular routine mechanical maintenance beyond BMW standards.

The body is excellent for a car of this vintage and mileage. The roof, doors, fenders, hood, all glass, and all paint are in excellent condition, with one exception: there's a slight, hardly noticeable, depression in the lower left corner area of the tailgate, just above the left rear tail-light. I was "love-tapped" by anuninsureddriverwith no driver's license and stolen plates. This incident did not break the paint surface, does not affect the operation of the tailgate, and is barely visible in most light conditions (see pic).

Both bumpers display very minor, non-structural “road rash.”

Since 2005 (and apparently since new) the car has been used only by a mid-60s non-smoker. The interior is very clean for a car of this vintage and mileage, with one exception: there’s a small tear in the rear end of the right front seat cushion, caused many years ago by a mechanic who arranged for a repair that looked perfect at the time. A few years ago, the tear started to re-open (see pic). This tear is unattractive, but it's near the back ofthe seat, thus not very visibleunlessyou're looking right at it; and it's otherwise not noticeable to passengers seated in this seat…you don’t feel the tear when you’re sitting on it.

Original BMW alloy wheels are in excellent condition, Michelin "Pilot Exalto" all-season tires are in good condition with good tread left.
