Well, the beast I refer to as "Big Red" is in search for a new owner. Car makes almost 700whp on pump gas, have never seen what it does with race gas map. Engine is built to withstand 1,000+. The pump gas tune tore the engine and tranny mounts in half while racing at shift sector so the car has solid mounts all around now. If Doc Brown and Marty Mcfly wanted to escape the Libyans, this is how they should have done it. 88mph comes super quick. Road? Where you're going you'll need roads. Lots of straight roads. I mean straight as an arrow. When boost hits you better be pointed in the right direction or you'll be Ghaddafi'd by the nearest tree.
The engine build and turbo kit were around $40k installed. There are a lot of LS swap or 2JZ swapped E36's out there, and even some S54 swaps. This is the only built bottom end S54 turbo in an E36 in the whole world. I had to figure everything out on how to do this swap, there was no one to ask or help out with it. It took more than 6 months to just do the swap, it is expensive and hard to make the S54 make big power, but the sound and performance is unparalleled and can't be compared to the blasphemy of swapping a GM or JDM motor into a German car.
Chassis:
1995 Hellrot M3
117xxx original miles
full interior in great condition
no accidents!
clear is starting to peel on the roof in some spots, otherwise paint is excellent.
Suspension:
H&R race springs, bilstein shocks.
Wheels:
Car currently has the gold ccw style wheels on from the first picture and they are plasti-dipped gunmetal. Also have a full set of DS1's available if you prefer those.
Engine:
This is what you're reading this for. I bought an E46 M3 that had an HPF stage 2.5 S54 motor (this means it has built internals) and I swapped that bad boy into the lighter more nimble E36 chassis. I bought a 6 speed euro trans to go with it since the parts car had this custom automatic trans in it. The motor had 500 miles on the build when i swapped it and I've put ~1,000 miles on the engine since the swap. It has been sitting for the past 3 years because I couldn't decide what to do with it and was putting my time, money, effort into my C63S.
I have since crashed my C63 and even with turbos downpipes and tune this little red E36 would walk my C63 like it was hauling a big rig even though they made the same power. If you are interested in just the drivetrain we can talk as well, I do have an attachment to the car itself and could keep the chassis and swap a euro motor into it if you just want a built s54 motor to scare your neighbors with.
What this car needs:
Nothing, just drive it. Compression and leak-downwas checked when I bought the engine and I've changed the oil twice in that time just to be safe (less than 1,000 miles driven). I daily drove it when I first did the swap and went to shift sector with it once, other than that it has been sitting in storage, currently at my office in Irvine, CA. It can be inspected at the shop of your choosing as well.
What the car could benefit from:
A widebody kit would help keep you alive. This car has 255's in the back and it can get squirmy. Hits hard when boost kicks in so you need to know what you're doing. If you're 18 and your parents are giving you money for this, I won't sell it to you. You will die. It is not a toy, this car is scary fast and I'm not contributing to your early demise. That being said, a widebody and some 11" tires would do wonders. A cage probably would be a good idea too.My goal was to make it the ultimate sleeper, and I think it passes the test. It is quiet at idle, unassuming exterior, intercooler is hidden behind front valence, but when you floor it...different story. It doesn't sound like anything else out there, even other turbo s54's (I also had a stage 2 Laguna Seca E46 turbo)
Coilovers- I was given KW v3's at one point in exchange for tuning (I'm an ECU tuner) but I never installed and lost the package. Oops! Having some adjustability will help you fit some wider wheels/tires even without a widebody.
AEM infinity standalone- The HPF piggyback system is outdated, it was useful at the time because there was no other way to turbo an s54 but now you have options, the best of which seems to be the AEM infinity. A standalone will give you switchable maps, custom tuning, more power, etc.
The car can run A/C it just needs a couple things to work, for me this was a race car and it wasn't a necessity. AC compressor is attached to the engine, just need a belt and one line.
Asking price is $35k OBO, I have listed it on ebay but it is for sale privately as well, I have the right to end the listing at anytime if someone comes with cash in hand. Car is available to show as well, so if you are interested we can set up a time for you to kick the tires. Absolutely no joy rides unless you hand me cash in hand.
