1987 BMW 325i
1987 BMW 3-Series Description
I am selling my 1987 BMW 325i - THIS CAR HAS MINOR ENGINE ISSUES - I have neither the time nor money to devote to it that it needs so I decided it was time to pass it on to someone that does.
It developed a cold start idle issue a while back that I have been battling - the engine rpm runs up and down from idle to ~1500 until the engine is fully warmed up, then it idles out just fine. ~1 year ago I replaced the idle control valve, ignition coil, spark plugs and wires and a vacuum hose or two that had cracks. That got the car to its current running condition (problem was worse before).
The car had its heater core, blower motor and thermostat replaced ~3 years ago.
The last couple times I ran the car it had started overheating - I suspect the thermostat, but have not delved into this issue - there was always plenty of coolant.
For the past two years it has not been in daily use, all I have done is start it up and drive it around once a month to keep everything functioning.
As with most of these cars the odometer stopped turning some time back - I would estimate it still has less than 70k miles (currently reads 59775).
There are no problems with the chassis or transmission - all power windows and the power sunroof still work fine (I replaced a couple of the window switches a while back).
You will notice in the trunk picture the car is equipped with a battery cutoff switch- there is an undiagnosed drain on the battery which will drain it flat if it sits for more than a day without being run. I simply throw the switch off when I get done driving it and it works just fine. The center console has been disconnected from the power as part of that issue, so the radio currently does not work.
The final problem of note is that the last time I put gas in the car (have always used premium) it very soon after developed a bad stutter/hesitation in the engine - most notably under heavy throttle. I suspect a got a bad load of gas, but dropping and draining the tank is an expense I cannot afford.
There are a couple very minor dents/creases on the drivers side from in incident with a deer a couple years back (this is central KY) - the drivers side mirror was replaced.
The tires on the car are Kumho Solus kr21s - they dont have a lot of miles on them and are in great shape.
I suspect the engine issues can be cleared up relatively easy, but my employment situation is requiring me to sell off my extra toys. I have greatly enjoyed having this car and am only selling it because I cannot devote the time and don't have the money to put into that it needs. As stated above it is a relatively low mileage chassis that would be a great little project car.
I have both the Haynes and Bentley shop manuals for this car which will both be included.
If you would like any more pictures or have any questions feel free to contact me.
Seller must come pick the car up, I will not deliver it (and I would recommend bringing a trailer).
