2004 BMW M3 Description

I am selling a 2004 BMW M3 6 speed manual with 128k miles. I will give full disclosure below to avoid surprises or misunderstandings. Please read over the description carefully and ask any questions you may have prior to purchase.
- California Car
- Desirable 2004-2006 range M3
- 6 speed manual, 3 pedal tranmission. This was originally a SMG vehicle converted to a 6 speed manual.
- No check engine light or any other warning lights.
- No cracks in the rear subframe. No cracks in the rear trunk floor.
- Front and rear suspension bushings are good.
- Passed California Smog inspection(within 90 day transfer period)
- Clean title on hand.
Work done within the past year: Approx $8000 worth of work.
- New Clutch pressure plate, friction disc, flywheel,
- Short throw shifter
- New Clutch master cylinder and slave cylinder
- Transmission fluid change
- New driveshaft flex disc and center support
- Valve adjustment
- New front brake pads and rotors
- New Bilstein shocks on all four corners
- New waterpump and fan switch. Upper reservoir return hose. New coolant
- New drive belt, drive belt tensioner and idler pulley
- Just changed the engine oil and filter with OEM filter kit and 10w-60 LiquiMoly Full Synthetic oil 5-28-17. Shined flash light into the oil filter housing and old oil and there are no signs of anything metallic or shinny.
- Have receipts for the above other than the oil change which I did myself and the Bilstein shocks which were purchased online(New items).
-I don't know when the SMG to 6 speed manual conversion was done. This is normally a $3000+ conversion.
-19" E46 M3 wheels painted black(presentable but not done to a high standard). Run flat tires have plenty of tread but the outer edges are worn more than the center.
Items of concern: Mechanical
- Radio volume started to cuts in and out after shock replacement. Possible wire issue at amplifier or the amplifier itself going out.
- Motor mounts will need replacement soon. They are partially collapsed and you can feel some drive train vibration in the chassis.
Exterior cosmetics:
- Front bumper was repainted at some point and the gaps are not perfect
- Small dent on passenger side rear quarter panel. Can be seen in the photo.
- Various panels on the body have been repainted.
- Some of the rubber trims are deteriorating
- This is not a garage queen. Its a presentable driver
Interior condition:
- Black leather interior is in good condition. No cracks, holes or wear through in the leather. There are two lines (2 inch long) on the bottom cushion of the driver front seat that looks like leather repair but are not noticeable.
- Aluminum trims on the doors and center console shows wear marks.
- Driver's door arm rest and center console shows wear
- Door SRS plastic caps are missing
- Passenger side roof handle is missing the rear plastic cap.
- Sunroof sliding shade feels looser than it should be
- Trunk carpet is has oil/grease spot. Looks like parts were transported/stored in the trunk at some point.
Engine:
- Starts up instantly. Rock solid idle with no lumpiness or idle fluctuation.
- No smoke on cold start or under full throttle acceleration
- No odd valve train noises. Sounds like a angry 8000rpm sewing machine the way a S54 should.
- Engine is spirited and pulls strong to redline. Sport button feels like a mini supercharger kicking in. I have driven dozens of E46 M3's and this one feels right.
Transmission:
- Goes smoothly into every gear cold or warm.
- Shifting effort into every gear is consistent. No notchy 1st and/or 2nd gear that a worn/abused transmission would display.
- The installed short shifter is very short and takes some time to get used to.
Differential:
- Smooth and quiet.
- No chatter doing hard u-turns or accelerating out of corners.
Brakes and suspension:
- Brakes and suspension is about what a 128k miles E46 M3 would feel like with new Bilstein shocks. Nothing abnormal. Still performs well but definitely does not feel like a 30k mile example(used to own one).
Exhaust:
- Stock exhaust system. Two of the exhaust mounts were filled with silicone to essentially making them solid mounts.
In summary, this would be a good entry to a driver quality E46 M3 that you can daily and not turn into a nervous wreck parking it on the street. Strong healthy drivetrain and desirable 2004+ model year car with no major mechanical ailments. I had plans of doing weight reduction on this car and turning it into a track car but those plans have changed.
