1988 BMW 7-Series Base Description

1988 BMW 735iA 4-door Luxury Sedan model E32exterior color Kaschmirbeige-metallicinterior color tan (leather)

You are bidding on our family's faithful daily driver.

Good, solid, German quality-engineered and executed construction, very reliable (be it-20F or +120F outside), full-size BMW sedan, excellent ride comfort and reasonable but not opulent space for a conventional car.

Selling as we now have a Company car; the key to any car's utility is to keep on driving it, not letting it sit to deteriorate in the yard...

We purchased her here in Connecticut 4 years ago from a young, mechanically apt Gentleman who had gone through some trouble repairing her biggest component (replacing the engine head gasket twice in short order - invoices at hand).

Born in January 1988 in Dingolfing, Germany, she was acquired and entered service in August 1988 in New York, NY by a Connecticut buyer who later moved to Florida, where the previous owner rescued her and brought her back home "up North".

Of excellent pedigree and with lots of records, including the original invoice (paid with a trade-in but mostly in cash - try doing that nowadays!), she still comes with a clear Connecticut title of ownership (Connecticut no longer issues these for cars older than 20 years - it's registration only for those now).

Although we've somewhat taken care of the Old Lady's maintenance, she will nevertheless need some attention; top of the list being the repair (or junkyard swap) of a driver's seat (ideally a full fresher interior from a deceased sister - the front seats of the 5 Series model E34 are similar but the electrical connectors differ) a rearview mirror and new front tires, followed by various (but not necessarily all - we did replace some of them while we own her) front strut inserts/control arms/tie rods and rear shock absorbers which warrant replacement. We've tried to price her so low as to avoid outright junking (she still runs fine) yet low enough to enable the new owner to give her the attention she will need.

Being an enthusiast and/or mechanically able would help too!

Work we've performed in the interim (last year, year and a half or so) include brakes/rotors, fluid and front calipers, a replaced radiator and new rear tires which currently have less than 3000 miles on them. Last oil change was in January, less than 2500 miles ago.

Nonetheless, please consider she is of advanced age (29+ years!) and somewhat gracefully shows it -the clear coat of the original metallic paintwork is mostly burned away from intense Florida sunlight, rear doors have dents (no damage to the paintwork) to the side from the door handles, the right side rear fender suffered from a minor impact (before my ownership - again, no damage to the paintwork, so - no rust), the seat leather is losing its elasticity and ability to withstand light and daily use, the carpet is soiled (although we use rugs to avoid the worst) and the headliner "sags" in the back, the driver's side door lock insert is loose - door closes but does not lock by key or central locking (old Bimmer owners know it's best to use the trunklock to secure the parked car although the passenger door lock works fine and will activate central locking), both rear interior door actuator cables have snapped (rear doors can only be opened from the outside), front passenger side window motor has quit, front bumper has a small crack on the passenger side by the fog light, the rear bumper suffered a scratch, the AC has never worked during our tenure (but the sunroof opens nicely) and the radio security code per the card somehow does not match the unit...

But her mileage is a genuine 253,300 and counting daily (that's a respectable 400,000 Kms.) so by the time You meet her she'll have a couple miles more and I wouldn't hesitate to fill her tank and drive her across the country to meet You tomorrow. She has seen as far south as North Carolina with us, prefers hours of long distance runs over supermarket hauls with several cold starts and urban driving, gas mileage is consequentially somewhere between 14...23 USG and that's all not as thrilling as the gas mileage from a new-ish Chevy Cruze. Cruze - really? (Or should I mention a scandalous VW Jetta "Clean" Diesel?) But she doesn't drive as basic or sound as tinny as those Econoboxes either...

Terms and Conditions:

Although advertising as vehicle for pick-up, the owner will gladly drive her to her new owner(s), in which case the winning bidder will need to add the cost of one-way lowest-cost economy airfare back to New York / New Haven and the airport bus and train back to Milford, and graciously take me to their respective airport with scheduled airline service.

Winning bidder will PayPal a nonrefundable deposit of one hundred US dollars within 24 hours of end of auction to confirm the purchase and contact us within such time frame by "asking a question" through ebay channels and make arrangements for pickup or delivery, in which case we shall come to an agreement to the costs of getting me back home to Milford, Connecticut. Remaining funds may be remitted as both sides agree upon.

This is a private sale, vehicle is titled to me in person.

Winning price does not include the cost of tag and/or insurance (owner will take them off at closing of the deal) but we do have the Connecticut DMV official sales contract form and don't charge extra for "doc prep" or similar bs.

In the event of nonpayment of the deposit within 48 hours or no contact by the buyer as outlined, seller reserves the right to file a grievance with ebay and re-list the vehicle.

We won't sell outside of the Continental USA, nor to Alaska. Such endeavor shall be at the burden of the buyer only after they purchase.

Lastly, we hope You enjoyed Your browse with us today!

Thank You for visiting - Good luck bidding!
