2000 BMW 5-Series Description

For sale at auction today is my silver on black 2000 BMW 540i with a rare 6-speed manual transmission, M-sport package and lots of other goodies listed below.
In a nutshell:
new clutch
new timing chains/guides
new water pump
new thermostat
new radiator
new front O2 sensors
new shocks
new control arms
new center link
new tie rods
new pads and rotors
new tires
4 wheel alignment performed
new fan clutch
new fan blade
new fan shroud
new coolant hoses
new filters
new spark plugs
new fluids
new Eibach rear sway bar (much thicker then stock, made this 5-series take turns like an M3)
new M5 trunk lip spoiler
new floor mats
new wiper blades
new window regulator(R/R)
new headlight lenses
new updated taillights
etc.
I rebuilt both headlights adjusters and installed new headlight lenses, this made the headlights more modern looking but more importantly it made them very efficient when driving at night, these OEM HID Hella units really put out a lot of light....they are actually much brighter then my 2007 Audi A6 Avant with ASF headlights.
I swapped the taillights to the updated facelift version that use LED lights for the brake lights and I still have the original taillights should the new owner decide to swap them back.
Inside the cabin I swapped a factory short throw shifter from an E60 BMW which really transformed the way you shift gears, it has a direct and precise feel to it, made such a big improvement, I think you'll agree once you drive this car.
I deleted the clutch delay valve (CDV) for a more direct clutch feel, ultimately extending the new clutch's life.
I did a rear muffler delete and added my own rear section of exhaust with twin double wall tips, slightly more growl when on the throttle, extremely quiet at idle and when cruising, no drone whatsoever....60lbs in weight savings and a nice increase in torque.
The thicker Eibach rear sway bar combined with the new shocks and new control arms really transformed the way this car handles, it takes turns like it's on rails.
The ride is tight but comfortable, it honestly rides like a new car, nice and tight but it is not a harsh ride by any means.
Your teeth won't chatter every time you drive on cobblestones and you won't spit blood every time you hit a bump, I promise. ;)
The exhaust is not obnoxious, the sound is behind the car not inside the car, there is no drone and it is dead silent at idle. It only adds a bit more growl when you're on the throttle, again nothing obnoxious....I'm 36years old not 17.
This is not my first 6-speed 540i, I'm very familiar with these cars and especially with the M62TU engine, I've rebuilt several E38s and E39s, one E53 with this terrific 4.4 engine.....for what it's worth, I am a factory trained Master Audi Tech with a big passion for BMWs... I've had over 20 of them including a few I should have never sold like two Euro 635csi cars.
Oh well, too many cars, not enough time.
This particular car is truly a solid one, drives like new and can put many new cars to shame when it comes to power and handling....they just don't make them like they used to.
There are no warning lights on the dash, no hidden fault codes, no squeaks, no rattles, no clunks, this car is very well sorted out.
As with any 17yo car there is some wear and tear, some scratches here and there, mostly on the rear bumper but overall the car is extremely presentable, I think you'll agree.
The driver's seat was showing its age so I swapped the leather cushion from a 740i, the 540i seat back plastic cover is slightly shorter so it doesn't cover it completely(pictured).
The sunroof motor is currently unplugged as it was noisy when trying to open, I have no use for the sunroof and I do like to open/close the windows with the key fob so I just unplugged the motor.
There is a small split in the seam on the back seat(pictured), it's not the leather is the string itself, easy fix.
There is a full spare in the trunk but that tire should be replaced.
I encourage you to come see it in person, it will absolutely win you over.
The V8 engine has a lot of life left in it, it's quick and if you don't drive it like a maniac it's actually not bad on gas.
I have a friend with an E46 M3 and my 540i is just as good if not slightly better in the twisties...I absolutely love this car.
I'm pretty bummed to have to sell this car especially after investing quite a bit of time and money to get it where its at and that's the Ultimate Driving Machine but life happens and the BMW has to go.
I put about 5,000 miles on this car (3,000 since the major work completed) and it always puts a big smile on my face, I would not hesitate to drive it cross country.
Fly in and drive home, this 540i will not disappoint.
The car is located in Boise, ID 83716 feel free to check it out in person.
The car is also listed locally, I reserve the right to end the auction at any time should the vehicle no longer be available.
