1974 BMW Bavaria 4 Speed
1974 BMW Other Description
This auction is for 1974 BMW Bavaria. Body in good overall condition. Little but of rust along the edges but the floors and shock towers are rock solid.
Rockers and frame rails are also very good condition. It was a California car up till 2009. There was a bit of rust through under the rear seat from mice nesting. I patched with fiberglass and Rust sealing Paint front both sides. Paint is in fair condition showing some "patina" or thinning on the roof and tops of rear fenders. It's been repainted original Polaris silver somewhere in the past. Some paint bubbling along belt trim on one fender. Front passenger door has rust in the corner but I have a rust free door in the same color from a parts car included. Big 5MPH rear bumper has been swapped out with a 1973 bumper. Haven't had time to swap the front bumper. I will include the 1973 front bumper with the car.
Interior is in good shape. A few small dash cracks but not bad.Front seats are vinyl but some of the horse hair stuffing has deteriorated. The rear seats are leather from parts car. There are radio speaker holes cut in the the metal below the rear seat. Speakers are gone, holes are covered by carpet.
Carpet was swapped with after market type in the past. I have a complete stock carpet from parts car. I will include with sale. Headliner has no rips. All glass in good shape all manual windows work. Car has manual sunroof that doesn't work. It is stuck and I have not investigated why. Air Conditioner kaput as well.
I bought this car a year and a half ago and swapped out the automatic for a 4speed manual. It has a new clutch, slave cylinder and rebuilt master cylinder.New drive shaft center bearing and drive shaft professionally balanced.
The transmission synchro grind a bit when shifting into 4th gear. The suspension is a little soft so it could probably use shocks. Brakes stop straight no pulling left or right.
There is a small exhaust leak from the down pipe connect to the center resonator. From when I reinstalled the exhaust after doing the transmission swap. There are no holes in the system. This is easily fixed by adjusting and re-tightening the exhaust joints.
Mileage is unknown. There is a bit of a whine coming from the rear end. Winning bidder is welcome to the differential from the parts car.
Car runs but the carburetors need some attention. It runs a bit rough when cold. Motor runs well, has later (better) m30 head, 1982 casting. It still has the original Zenith carbs. I've replaced the spark plugs and points. Have not adjusted the timing since the carbs need turning first.
I have a brand new set of Weber Carbs still in box. They are not included in this auction if the highestbid is less than $4000.
The set of Weber 32/36 DGAV's come specifically for BMW Bavaria, retails for over $700. Comes with everything you need for installation including adapter for stock air cleaner.
The Weber carbs are included only if auction ends at $4000 or more.
That should give you a clue to the reserve price. Which in my humble opinon is very reasonable.
If winning bid meets reserve but not $4000 the winner can purchase the Webers at additional cost.
Directionals work but the but currently the windshield wipers do not. I have a wiper switch that will be included with sale. Also has a new ignition switch installed.Becker AM/FM Europa radio works fine.
Has Michelin XZX tires. Two look good the other two have some cracking. Car runs and drives okay but I would not drive it long distance without tuning the carbs or replacing tires.
This car needs a little attention to be a reliable driver. I have 3 other BMWs and no time to devote to this Bavaria. Needs to go to someone who knows and appreciates these cars.
This car is available for viewing in person. Please contact me if you want to come see it and drive it.Its located in Northwest Bergen County NJ. About 20 miles from NYC.

If you are thinking of bidding Please ask questions.
I've tried to describe the car as best as I can.
I will not tolerate winning bidder who shows up with cash and then trys to bargin down the ending bid because you "didn't know this" or "you didn't tell me that".
Remember winning bid of $4000 or more gets a brand new set of Weber Carbs included!
If you know these cars you know their quirks and how great they drive when properly sorted. If you don't know these cars then you probably should not bid.
