2002 E39 M5
2002 BMW M5 Description
Hello, thank you for visiting my auction. I will be as detailed as possible with the description and take you through my ownership of this car along with its condition. I purchased this car in September of 2015 out of Santa Fe, NM. The car had a light impact in January of 15 involving the front right side which resulted in a front bumper replacement and minor repair of the front right quarter panel. The engine had a knock, which turned out to be a damaged rod bearing. The current chassis mileage is 132,418 miles and engine mileage is 40,570. The DMV seems to have made a mistake in typing in the mileage when I was getting a new title which explains the mileage inconsistency on the carfax. I have kept a detailed fuel and maintenance log that shows exact mileage at every step available as a word document. Contact me and I will send you a copy of the carfax that was ran on 12/27/17. I purchased a low mileage replacement engine, sourced from a 2001 M5 which was totaled with 31,756 miles on the odometer.
The replacement engine was gone through and had many of the common problem parts replaced for preventative maintenance.
Those parts are the following: Beisan Systems VANOS rebuild kit with seals, VANOS filters, camshaft position sensors, engine mounts, Mass airflow sensors, Upgraded round M engine oil cap, coolant thermostat gasket, engine water pump gasket, BMW thermostat, Coolant drain plug crush rings, BMW engine water pump, BMW crankshaft position sensor, BMW rear crankshaft seal kit, BMW front crankshaft seal kit, pressure hose assembly, BMW VANOS diaphragm spring sets, timing cover gasket sets, engine timing chain tensioner, oil dipstick oring, Oil separator hose left and right, BMW intake manifold gasket upper, BMW upper air collector orings, VANOS solenoid orings, BMW VANOS solenoid cover gaskets, drive belt tensioner, oil pipe outlet, cable holders, valve cover gasket set's left and right, valve cover seal washers and gromets, Valve cover upper gasket's, oil dipstick seal upper, BMW oil level sensor, position sensor orings, exhaust manifold gaskets, Bosch reman starter motor, fuel filter, clutch pressure plate bolts, engine oil pan gasket lower, water pump gasket, coolant connection pipe orings, water pump orings, Oil pressure switch, vacuum check valve, air hose elbow's, 1/8 Brass barb and brass 90 elbow to replace brittle factory plastic, plug housings, Air conditioning oring's, fuel injection air flow meter gasket's, NGK spark plugs, UUC performance organic clutch kit, power steering reservoir (with upgraded mcmaster-carr extreme temp vibration dampining sandwich mounts), Engine oil filter housing (upgraded with same mcmaster-carr dampining sandwich mounts), K&N filters, oil change with liquimoly 10w-60 and factory filter kit (always used).
Zionsville aluminum radiator with fan filled with factory blue BMW coolant (always used) replaces the factory unit (previous owner) and new lower radiator hose. New BMW Fuel pump was installed. Transmission received 3 new shaft seals with fresh FFL-4 75W Pentosin fluid, The clutch pivot pin was replaced with a bronze AGA unit, pivot pin retaining spring, throw out bearing, Clutch fork lever, pilot bearing, crankshaft sensor shim, transmission mounting bolts, guibo, and UUC "Street" grade black polyurethane transmission mounts, Shifter bushings were replaced from rubber to delrin plastic along with new factory shift lever base foam, complete shifter rebuild kit from ECS, and rubber dust seal.
New butyl strip was used to mount the recently replaced OEM drive shaft along with a new CV joint gasket.
The rear end got a fluid flush with Mobil 1 75W-90. The rear subframe reinforcement and bushings had been completed by the previous owner, the bushings appear to be OEM.
Replaced parts on the body/interior include, sunroof guide rails and seals, windshield seals front and back, Koni suspension on Dinan springs (previous owner), Dinan anti way bars front and rear, Beast power rear sway bar brackets, muffler hanger's, windshield wipers, wiper blade guides, hood release Bowden cable's, upper and lower hood locks, hood cable, BMW roundel emblem's, M5 badging, windshield cowl cover, headlight mounting nuts, license plate light assemblies, bumper cover gasket, upper headlight gaskets left and right, fuel door spring and hinge, wheel center cap's, lambda probe bracket, cable clips and clamps, outer windshield cowl cover's left and right, Seat trim cover set, M leather owners manual cover, Sharp (japan) navigation and display monitor, cup holders, Radar mirror.com auto dimming mirror repair, ECS tuning black kidney grill's, jack pads, hood alarm system switch, Center console TEC cup holder, front brake ducts, and peake code reader.
The car has Dinan mufflers installed (previous owner).
The paint is in good condition with some chipping on the hood and front bumper from road debris and minor chipping in the fuel door area. The interior is in good condition with mostly bolster wear on the driver seat and some minor damage to the passenger seat (see pictures) The rear seats look very good and have the fold down/lock option along with the pass through the center for ski's. The instrument cluster has no issues with dead pixles and the center navigation screen has been replaced with a new unit from Sharp with a screen protector installed.
Floor mats in the rear and passenger side are in great shape, the drivers side is worn. The headlight adjusters need to be replaced and the replacement kit will come with the car. Fog lamp lenses are cracked and need replacement. The rear passenger pull up privacy shades show wear. The shifter has a slight rattle during upper RPM driving which seems to be from inside the actual shifter or caused by the hard plastic shifter bushing replacements.
I was planning on replacing the plastic skid plates with steel units but did not get to it so the plastic skid plates underneath are not in great condition. The factory BMW style 65 wheels have the typical paint chipping issue, none of the wheels have been curbed so they are great candidates for being re painted or powder coated.
The rear right wheel bearing has started to make a humming sound with no measured wobble at the tire (Car jacked up with me moving side to side and up/down). So rear wheel bearings should be changed. I have kept a detailed record of fuel and maintenance service.
I used an oil catch can system for 8,547 miles (of the 8,811 I put on the car) and removed it due to its unattractive presence in the engine bay. I have returned the oil scavenging system to stock and would highly suggest the next owner install a catch can system as they are very effective at catching excess oil from entering the intake.
About four thousand of the 8,811 that I have put on the car is from highway use on a couple of road trips to AZ. The rest are commuter miles. I have taken great care of the car and always expressed mechanical sympathy when driving it. No burn outs or bouncing off the rev limiter. It has been garage kept for a majority of it's time with me and it drives great!
The mileage on the picture is what it will stay at. I have another car as a daily driver so you don't need to lose sleep over the though of your bids being wasted on a car that's being abused during the auction. If you have any questions feel free to send me a message or call/text me at 575-441-9725. I can take any pictures that you request as well including receipts. If you are willing to make a trip out I would be delighted to have you drive and inspect it for yourself!

Update 01/04/2018 I had an ebay question about the fenders and quarter panels looking brighter than the rest of the car in the pictures. That is due to direct sunlight causing a brighter silver color where its shining directly on.
