1991 Buick Roadmaster Roadmaster Estate Wagon Description

For sale - 1991 Buick Roadmaster Estate Wagon

This car is a true survivor as the very first model year of the final generation of the big GM RWD B-body cars.Given its age and that many of these wagons were subjected to rough-and tumble family duty, I’m guessing that not many 1991 Roadmasters are on the road these days. I’ve also learned that apparently there is quite a fan following for these cars with loads of forums and websites with tips, parts, pictures and stories.

This car has the 5.0 liter V8. While everyone seems to covet the LT1 V8s, the engine on this car is durable and still runs strong. One interesting fact about this car – apparently in 1991, wood siding was 100% equipment, however, this car with built with the wood siding delete which had to be custom ordered. In some ways this all makes this car a bit of a rare bird.

I acquired this car from the estate of a family friend who passed. This car was used as his trusted daily driver to preserve his other 1996 Buick Roadmaster. As a result, this car was mechanically well maintained to ensure it remained reliable.Admittedly, I have not had much experience with the car as I’ve only had it several months and have yet to put it on the road. But I did drive it home, to the gas station, etc. and it drives smoothly.

Pros

1. Car is mechanically strong and appears to have been mechanically maintained

2. Starts and runs and drives well with no smoke or drips

3. No funny smells (outside of a hint of cigarette smoke)

4. Transmission shifts through all gears without issue

5. Brand new master cylinder and full brake fluid change and flush (I have receipt for $655 in work)

6. Recent front rotors and bearings

7. Recent battery and alternator

8. It looks to be very well equipped with a EQ radio, power antenna and even a compass in the mirror!

9. All lights and power features appear to work (3rd row courtesy lights and the power tailgate release can be finicky)

10. The car has working AC which was converted to R134A at one point

11. Recent tires with lots of tread - car also comes with a spare set of 2 rims (tires on them are worn out)

12. Overall It is complete car that includes the owner’s manual and even the shop manual

Cons

1. The car has a good bit of miles – 256,600 to be exact, but you wouldn’t tell based on how it runs!

2. The paint is shot - with a classic case of clear coat failure. I’ve tried to shine it up as best I could, but you can’t buff out flaking clear coat.

3. There is evidence it was repainted or clear-coated in spots at one time or another – hence the paint condition.

4. The rear tailgate has a big dent from a parking lot hit-and-run as I was told. I banged it out as best I could, but could stand to be repaired or replaced unless you don’t care about how it looks.

5. There are some minor spots of visible rust - on the D pillars, the lower left- rear rocker panel, the right rear lower wheel arch and the bottom of the spare tire well.

6. There are some other minor dents and dings consistent with a 25 year old daily driver, but the body overall is reasonably clean and straight.

7. There is some rust staining in the carpet in the 3rd seat foot well– however, it’s remained dry back there despite the car having sat through several heavy rainstorms since I’ve had it.

8. The rear power windows slide of the tracks, but they do stay up. The motors and switches work as they should however. I understand it is a common problem with an easy fix.

9. There is a small tear and some stitching unraveling on the driver seat

10. The driver power door lock goes down when you press the button on the door, but does not go up. You need to manually unlock the door. All other power door locks work fine.

11. It has keyless entry but I could not get the remotes to program.

There may be things I have missed or am not aware of, but I have done my best to reflect what I know about the car in the limited time I’ve had it.

Frankly, my plan was to replace the tailgate and give it a mid-level Macco paint job – and possibly throw some Cragar SS wheels on it for effect. The reason I’m selling is that I’ve just acquired another classic car that was too good of a deal to pass up.So the Buick wagon must go as she sits.If I don’t, my wife will have me sleeping in it!

This is a solid running and driving car, but please understand that unless someone undertakes a full restoration, the car will never be a show car. It’s ideal as a work car, daily driver to preserve your better car, or as the third car for the high-school kids to use/abuse without worrying, etc… Or, despite the fact that this car still has some good life in it, it is complete with many good parts for your Roadmaster project.

Prices for these Roadmaster wagons are all over the map. However, balancing its mileage and condition with the fact it’s an early production year in a unique configuration, I’ve set the “Buy Now’ price at $2500. Reserve is a bit lower.

For anyone who follows through on the "Buy Now" sale, I will include a host of new-in-box parts I got with the car. They include a new set of rear air shocks, new distributor cap and rotor, new front brake pads, new AC dryer receiver, and new AC Delco air filter... Otherwise I plan to list them separately...

Now for the not so fine print…

• Please ask all questions before bidding.

• I am willing to coordinate a time for you to come look at the car before bidding. Just don’t waste my time being late/no-show/general pain-in-the-ass.

• The car is sold AS-IS. No warranty expressed or implied. It is a 25 year old car and I have no crystal ball regarding undiscovered problems or what may fail and when.

• All sales are final - you win it – you buy it – it’s yours both the good and bad. Seriously...

• Only bidders located in the United States will be accepted – your bid will be cancelled otherwise.

• You must be an eBay member with a strong track record and be in good standing – or your bid will be cancelled.

• I will not accept bids from eBay members with less than 5 transactions all of which are in good standing – or your bid will be cancelled.

• I require a cash transaction in person to paid in full within 7 days of the close of the auction. Any alternate payment arrangementsmust be discussed and agreed in advance.

• If there is no response and follow-through, I will cancel your bid, relist the car and report you.

• I will not accept any checks, money orders, wire transfers, promises of overpayment, scams, etc…

• Frauds and scammers will be reported to eBay and law enforcement as necessary…

• The title will not leave my hands until full payment is satisfactorily made/deposited/cleared

• The car will only be allowed to leave my property via a legal and insured method of transportation (flatbed, tow dolly, dealer plate with current and valid proof of registration and insurance). Don’t come with the plates off your cousin’s pickup and expect to drive away with the car.

• I have the right to cancel the auction at any time for any reason as the car will also be for sale locally.

Good luck bidding and I’m happy to answer any questions that I can. Please ask them BEFORE bidding!
