Check out this one owner 1999 Cadillac DeVille Concours Sedan at MotoeXotica Classic Cars that we are selling for a local to settle an estate. It was built in GM’s Detroit/Hamtramck Assembly in Hamtramck, Michigan in April 1999.
Finished in Galaxy Silver, this car’s paint and trim are in very good overall condition. The glass panels are in similar very good order, including the backlight with electric defroster. While the headlights exhibit some sunlight fade, the car’s other lights are in good shape. The car rolls on Cooper CSS Grand Touring radials, size 225/60R16 at all four corners surrounding factory wheel covers. The body panels are straight and solid, including the bumpers. However, the dark blue cloth roof covering sports a few blemishes. The engine bay is very tidy and the battery appears new. Driver assist features include electronic climate control with continuous outside temperature display and vents for rear passengers, Magnasteer variable-assist, speed-sensitive power rack-and-pinion steering, power four-wheel disc brakes with anti-lock, automatic parking brake release, dual front airbags, door-mounted side airbags and Rainsense windshield wipers.
Under the hood is Cadillac’s well-known Northstar 32-valve V-8 that debuted on the 1993 Allanté. In 1996, the DeVille base model received the lower-output Northstar while the Concours moved up to the high-output L37 Northstar. The DeVille Concours replaced the 1987–93 Cadillac Sixty Special. The Concours introduced continuously variable road sensing suspension (CVRSS). Backing the Northstar is the 4T80-E, a Hydramatic four-speed automatic transmission developed for use with V-8 front-wheel-drive cars, specifically the Cadillac Northstar engine. It was designed for extreme power handling capabilities at the time. The 4T80-E debuted in the Cadillac Allanté in 1993 along with the Northstar Double Overhead Camshaft (DOHC) V-8.
Inside, the Pewter power and heated front seats are in very good condition, as is the matching carpet and headliner. The instrument panel, with its Zebrano wood trim, is in one piece and the factory four-spoke steering wheel houses the driver’s airbag. The door panels, which house the side airbags, mirror glass and shift lever are all in very good order while the center console is in good shape. Among its many other options, this DeVille has a Delco-Bose AM/FM stereo with CD player.
The DeVille received a facelift for the 1997 model year. The name was shortened from Sedan de Ville to DeVille. New headlights and a new grille were added, the rear wheel skirts were removed, the interior was redesigned and the black/chrome trim was replaced by a double chrome trim in the base DeVille, chrome and gold trim in the d’Elegance and chrome and body colored trim in the Concours. The Concours received real-time damping and Integrated Chassis Control System ICCS as standard. The interior gained a new dashboard design that hid the passenger airbag seams and new door panels with front side-airbags and the availability of OnStar system. Production of this generation ended in July 1999.
The L37 (VIN “9”) was the original Northstar. It is tuned for responsiveness and power. The L37 code had been used on all high-output transverse Northstars, even as the exact engine specifications evolved. The compression ratio for the L37 is 10.3:1 for engines built prior to 2000.
Documentation includes original owner’s manual and some service and maintenance receipts.
Competition to this Cadillac in 1999 included Audi’s A8, BMW’s 750i, Infiniti’s Q45, Jaguar’s XJ8, Lexus’ LS400 and Mercedes-Benz’s S500.
