1978 Chevrolet El Camino Description
1978 Chevolet El Camino 350 automatic for sale.
Car was purchased by my friends parents in 1990, and they owned it since 2009.
I bought it from them in February 2016.
West Coast vehicle, no serious rust.
In the last 15 years the car was only used for short trips.
Studying the repair receipts, and from asking the previous owners, the car was driven less than 1,000 miles a year.
It has current Washington registration and tabs good til Feb 2017.
Original engine and transmission, starts right up and runs good.
Uses a little oil, I don't know how much, I have not driven it very many miles to see.
The brakes work OK, but they quick grabbing when starting out cold.
They work smoothly on the road.
Transmission and power steering work normally.
The instruments and back lighting work, except the gas gauge is erratic at times bouncing back and forth.
I tend to think it's the gauge.
The tires are BF Goodrich P225/70R/14 and are less that 2 years old.
Maintenance records show that that within the last 10 years, these repair /replacement services were performed:
- 2006-new rotors, pads, calipers
- 2007- new brake master cylinder
- 2008-Oil and filter

There are more receipts dating further back from 2005 to 1990 that I haven't cataloged yet, mostly maintenance.
There's a body shop repair invoice for bumper repair from a body and paint shop when the master brake cylinder failed-the damage was minor, and around $500.00 in repairs
The glass is good, no cracks. Thee has been a small amount of water leaking in the passenger side windshield that can be resealed.
The car is dry inside right now, and we had a rainstorm Monday.
This car has spent much of the last 25 years in a carport.
AC appears to need recharge/service.
A bit of a mystery persists about the odometer.
It looks like the odometer (speedometer) may have been replaced?
As of 2008, a repair invoice states the mileage as being 104320.
On the surface, it looks like the odometer was rolled back. I am certain the previous owners did not do that!
So my guess is replacement of the speedometer, but a missing repair receipt.
So, starting with 104,320 in 2008, I estimate the actual mileage to be, at 500 miles a year, to be about 108,000.
The speedometer works, but not as routed thru the cruise control box.
The cruise control doesn't work, so the speedometer doesn't function. I'll be looking to get it working during this auction.
