1970 Chevy C10/C20 Air Bagged Truck
1970 Chevrolet C-10 Description
This truck is being listed at no reserve, and will sell to the highest bidder!!!
This truck is a C-20, not a C-10 which was more common. For those of you who don't know, the main difference is a ¾ ton (C 20) vs. ½ ton (C 10), which is created by a stronger drivetrain, beefed up frame, 8 lug wheels, larger differential, and stiffer suspension. Since this truck is on a full air bag system now, the stiffer ride is taken out of the equations and rides great. What's left is one tough truck with plenty of low end torque and a smooth ride. This truck has nosqueaks, squeals, or clunks and drives like it did (or better) than when it was new.
Truck Overview: 1970 C-20 Long Bed, RWD, 16" Steel Wheels, Rebuilt 350 V8 motor, Rebuilt 350 3 speed automatic transmission.
Upgrades: Edelbrock intake manifold, Edelbrock 4 barrel carburetor, new interstate battery, upgraded exhaust with twin Flowmaster mufflers, brand new 225/70/R16 tires, new front disc brake conversion system with drop spindles, new brake booster/master cylinder, full air suspension with two Viair compressors and two tanks both mounted underneath the bed, HEI distributor, recent tune, and C-Notch professionally installed in the rear.
This truck is registered and is fitted with original authentic time period correct black California plates. This was not a "back yard" build and all work was completed by professional technicians at a local hot rod shop.
The paint is the first thing you will notice and is original with just the right amount of wear and patina. The interior is in amazing shape for a truck of this age and all original as well.
With the combination of drop spindles, rear frame notch and air suspension, the truck drops so much I had to cut out space for the massive differential to fit through the bed. You will see a ton of different concepts of how people tackle this but I think I came up with something pretty cool and unique. I scoured the Army Surplus stores until I finally came across this authentic vintage Howitzer Artillery box and attached two vintage ammunition boxes to both sides creating one awesome storage box, bench seat, or ice chest for a great tailgate party.
Attention was also paid to the smaller details as well starting with the engine compartment. Knowing that everyone loves the retro look, I stripped away all of the chrome accessories and swapped out with new classic value covers and air cleaner housing which was painted to match the light tan interior, bringing it all together. From here I started to tighten up little odds and ends such as clean up the wiring, degreasing the major components, and removing any unsightly and unnecessary add-ons. Everything works in the interior including the dome light, wipers, high beam floor button, glove box, ashtray, gauge lights. . . There isn't a functioning heater or AC but most the components are there if you wanted to get it up and running.
What you're left with is one great looking, and great running, truck which is sure to be a constant conversation piece for many years to come. I am sure the next owner will also find a few ways to make this one their own without having to break the bank.
Now for all of the not so great items on this beast. This is a C20, so it most likely has 4:11 gearing which set up for the larger tires. With the smaller 225/70 tires, and theoriginal 350 3 speed trans, it rev high at freeway speeds. I personally have driven it up to 30 miles on the freeway with out an issue but woulddefinitely upgrade to a 700R 4 speed if I were to do much freeway driving. Is perfect around town and speeds under 60 MPH. There is also a small amount of rust in each of the door down at the corners were these trucks typically get it, but super small. It personally doesn'tbother meenough to fix it but wanted you perfectionists to know what you are getting, and therest of this truck is completely rust free. The last items would be the bed wood. It has deteriorated near the cab and could either use a patch job or a new bed if you are going to be showing it. I have been using it this way for a year with no problems so it is just for looks if you fix it.
Check out the current issue of C/10 Builders Guild and you will see this exact truck on the cover with the bed shortened andupgraded wheels, but it gives you a good sense of what this truck could become if you wanted.
