1956 Chevrolet Nomad BEL AIR NOMAD Description

RARE NOMAD COLLECTORS YOUR SHIP HAS ARRIVED! Legendary cars are ones that everyone can agree upon are stylish with timeless design and subtle rarity. These are the vehicles that are sought out by collectors as highly prized—such as my 1956 Bel Air Nomad.

There was a time when the Nomad was often passed over for its Tri-Five brethren, the Bel Air Hardtops. Not now. The recent popularity of the two door station wagon has propelled the Nomad to atmospheric heights in the car collector world. Originality is the key! And the fact that less than 8000 Nomads were built in 1956 doesn’t hurt the collectability rating!

Today, finding an unmolested example is not only becoming difficult it is also becoming very expensive. Recent auction results have seen the Nomad bid up into the six figures. My Nomad might be your last opportunity to buy one that is affordable, at least by contemporary standards!

If you want to own and enjoy one the way the designers intended, then take a look at my car. It has many factors going for it: A just-completed (not even 500 miles ago) frame-off restoration to Factory Original Standards; plus the addition of a few much needed improvements for safety and comfort—Air Conditioning, Power Front Disc Brakes ( rears remain drums) and an Alternator that replaces the old generator. On the inside, everything appears stock with just a couple of improvements—an updated GM Radio with iPod/Bluetooth capability and the seamless addition of a lower panel housing the air conditioning vents and three critical instruments. The instrument panel itself is uncut!

The Nomad is wearing its super rare Factory Colors of LAUREL GREEN over CROCUS YELLOW (Code 717). The Interior is the correct CROCUS YELLOW and CHARCOAL (Code 595).

Fortunately, the two prior owners of the Nomad (one from 1964 until 2014) were impeccable in their maintenance and care of the car. The odometershows 98,000 original miles.

When repainted, it was stripped down to bare metal revealing the original body panels with NO DAMAGE and NO RUST! The body was SODA BLASTED and a 2 part epoxy primer was applied and then painted in a two stage process—the result is visually stunning.

Likewise, when the interior was replaced, only a CIADELLA Complete Interior Package, including the Daytona Carpeting and Linoleum Headliner, was purchased and professionally installed. Sound Deadening was added. Quiet and Gorgeous!

Open the hood and what do you find? A nicely detailed engine bay with the Original Motor—all 265 cubic inches with its Original Oil Bath Air Filter, and its big 2 Barrel Rochester Carburetor! The engine was completely rebuilt boring it 30 over with stainless steel valves, hardened intake and exhaust seats, new cam, oiler-tip rockers and a polished crankshaft. The starter was rebuilt and an electronic HEI distributor (looking like the Original) was installed with a Flame Thrower Coil. Additionally, the Nomad benefitted by the installation of a new Stainless Steel Radiator, Stainless Steel Brake Lines, a new Gas tank and sending unit. The Engine Stamp Pad is intact and visible: F56F decodes as a Flint Engine, manufactured in 1956, and the last “F” decodes as a 265 Cubic Inch, 2BBL with a Powerglide Transmission!

The Original Powerglide Transmission and Torque Converter were both completely rebuilt at the same time as the engine and the Rochester Carb.

New fuel lines were run, a New American Auto Wiring Harness was installed and the front disc brakes were finished with Cross Drilled and Slotted Rotors. New Drums are in the back. The notoriously finicky Rear Tailgate was completely overhauled and re-chromed. A lot of new chrome and base metal replaces the old stuff. The Original Front and Rear Bumpers were in such nice shape, with just the right amount of Patina, that they were left unrestored — take a look. I think that just about every single nut, bolt, screw, washer, hose, line, bearing and bushing were replaced during the restoration. A ton of money was spent!

The Nomad rides on Brand New Coker Whitewall Radials with the “pips” still evident. Vintage Air/Heat/Defroster integrated into the old Heater/Defroster controls makes for a pleasant ride in both Winter’s Cold and Summer’s Heat! Electric wipers were a must.

Also under the hood, you’ll find the Original Cowl Tag, properly in place and confirming the car’s provenance as a full “numbers matching” vehicle (at least to the extent that there were matching numbers in 1956!)

The fit and finish, as well as the door and hood gaps, are equal to and probably better than when the Nomad left the Assembly Line. Slide into the Interior and you’re transported back to 1956—it’s just that nice. For those who like to drive, get in and drive the Car across America—it’s that safe. Everything works correctly. Absolutely no issues!

I believe that my Nomad is a 100% Blue Chip Investment and will only increase in value as time goes by and these Original Cars become much rarer.
