SUMMARY
Frame-off restoration completed in 2012Classic cars are all about passion. Some of the nicest classics we feature are those built by folks who invest a large amount of time and money in to a project they simply love. And much to the surprise of casual onlookers, most gearheads' dream builds don't always involve Ridler finalists or a prestigious pile of name brand parts that serves as garage floor dcor. Instead, they're filled with impressive, well-done cruisers, which wrap modern power, everyday livability and top-notch road manners in about five times the curb appeal of a local showroom special. This stunning Chevy was painstakingly crafted into a first class piece of automotive art during a multi-year, high dollar restoration. And thanks to a modern small block and virtually indestructible transmission, it also sports a fully sorted drivetrain that creates the perfect platform for cross-country road trips. Looking for a hot tri-five that's every bit as cool and twice as classy as a ground-up street rod? Take a long look at this killer Bel Air!
BODYWORK/TRIM
Infusing classic Chevrolet lines with striking Slate and Pearl two-stage, this fantastic sedan is the recent beneficiary of a high quality, frame-off restoration. That custom metallic on blue-tint pigment is stretched over solid, all-GM sheetmetal. That old school iron aligns flat, show worthy reflections in tight fit and finish that would look right at home on much newer offerings. Smooth bumpers, smoked glass, dual mirrors, bowtie taillights and retrofitted "Fuel Injection" emblems add just the right amount of customization. And today, this Chevy rolls as the kind of awesome cruiser that we all stare at, many of us fondly remember, and few of us have the opportunity to actually own!
ENGINE
Motivation comes courtesy of a 6.2 liter Vortec V8, which is factory-rated at 403 horsepower in Cadillac's prestigious Escalade. Designed to move GM's largest offerings, the buff L92 utilizes lightweight aluminum construction and variable valve timing to create sharp throttle response and virtually endless torque. Caddy's familiar engine cover details monochromatic ornamentation with a super cool flame motif. A smooth serpentine system spins modern air conditioning beneath custom air and coolant tubes. A factory throttle body breathes through a conical air cleaner. There's a big aluminum radiator that, thanks to a polished support, rides between beefy electric puller fans and a polished overflow tank. And modern power steering combines with GM exhaust manifolds, a Hydratech brake booster and Bosch Ultra Premium plug wires to detail an otherwise purpose-built performer. Aesthetically, the smooth, body-matched engine compartment frames the L92's super clean casting in a technical appearance that oozes performance appeal. Niceties such as billet hood bracing, chrome hinges and braided fluid lines add just the right amount of flash. And the net result is a buttery, muscle-bound V8 that, through its distinctive rumble, foretells this Chevy's true hot rod nature.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
Like its clean engine bay and classy exterior panels, the bottom of this road ready Bel Air continues the theme of pairing proven hardware with enhanced technology. The stout small block twists a proven 700R4 4-speed, which is hooked to what appears to be C4-sourced Dana 44. Turns come courtesy of a fourth generation Corvette suspension, which mixes quick reflexes with excellent road manners. Stops are provided by red, Corvette-branded calipers, which clamp vented rotors at all four corners. A custom, true-dual exhaust system swirls spent gases through an X-shaped crossover, throaty Magnaflow mufflers and polished stainless tips. A Paul Newman frame perfectly complements solid, Slate floors, which ensure the car's flipside matches its topside. All that reliable hardware rides on C6 ZR1-style wheels, which spin 225/55ZR17 BF Goodrich g-Force Sports in front of 255/45ZR18 BF Goodrich g-Force Sports. And fully sorted details like stainless brake lines, braided fuel hoses and a fresh fuel tank ensure years of carefree cruising.

Inside this sedan, traditional '50s style is augmented with custom Saddle and Gray leather. The car's power front and fixed rear seats are all-day comfortable, featuring tight hides that display no significant wrinkles. In front of those seats, a Slate dash frames modern Pioneer audio, bright digital gauges and familiar Vintage Air climate controls in polished billet trim. Below that dash, a custom, full-length console anchors convenient cupholders and big Jensen speakers on clean carpet that's protected by color-keyed mats. In front of the driver, a billet steering wheel spins faux carbon fiber accents around a polished, tilting column and billet foot pedals. At the sides of the passengers, custom door panels hang sculpted armrests and stylish chrome handles between modern seatbelts and chrome window frames. And behind the cockpit, a custom-upholstered trunk hides the car's relocated fuel filler.
