1981 camaro
1981 Chevrolet Camaro Description
This is an absolutely zero rust Arizona car since new. I bought this from a 90 year old guy that I believe was the original owner. He hadn't driven it in years due to his age and it just sat in his carport. The Arizona sun did a number on the factory paint and one half it that was not in the shade was just about dust when I got the car. The body was lazer straight and of course no rust. It had all of the factory sport wheels with trim rings and caps along with dual sport mirrors. I had it painted the original color, put on a new set of tires, did some minor maintenance repair to it and drove it around for a couple of weeks. The interior is all original and is in remarkable condition for a 35 year old car. The heat has cooked a few cracks in the dash pad and the usual headliner trim is very delicate. The only flaw in the seats is a section in the driver's seat that has delaminated. The steering wheel and all of the dash components are in very good condition. It has the factory radio that works, but is pretty scratchy. This is obviously an adult owned car as there is very little wear or abuse to the overall condition of the car. All glass is good and the doors open and close securely. This is simply an unmolested original Camaro. It has the factory installed Buick V6 and the turbo 350 transmission. I guess it is a toss up as to which has less power, the V6 or the 305 V8 that was also available that year. Both are very durable, but neither are going to cut it in the cool factor. I wish I could say the car is ready to go, but I have let it sit around far too long and the fuel has gone bad and plugged up the carburetor so bad it will no longer even idle. This year has the computer controlled carb that when it worked was a poor excuse for fuel delivery and the availability of a replacement is tough to swallow. I'm being brutally honest about the drive-ability of the car because I don't want to give you the idea that with a can of gas additive you can drive this across the country. Depending on what you want to end up with will determine whether too patch up the V6 and drive it or drop in any decent motor and have a cruiser. The suspension and brakes were in fine condition when I was driving it. The lightweight motor just didn't put any strain on the suspension and the adult driving pretty much kept it on the highway. I guess I'm saying the bones of the car are excellent and the drive-train is going to need some TLC. This is the final year for this body style and should remain a classic design for a long long time. I have waaay too many cars and need to thin out the herd. I'm not interested in trades. I'm selling for a very reasonable price and just need the room in the driveway. I'm selling at no reserve. If you are looking for one of those southwest desert cars that needs absolutely zero body work, this is it. The underneath is as clean as the top. This will make a great project car or restoration piece. It is up to you to decide which way to go.
