1954 Chevrolet 3100 Truck.
This 1954 Chevrolet 3100 is riding on a 1993 long bed S 10 frame. From the S 10 we did reuse the engine 4.3 liter Tbi engine, brake system and Steering column. Going to try to break down by each section to tell what we have done to this truck.
Body: The 1954 body was in good shape with some rust. Really no big dents or beat up body. We did replace the cab corners and blended in. All the rest of the paint on this truck is how it came. It has been buffed out to an amazing look. I'm pretty sure you want find a better patina look truck. All original bumpers and grille. Cowl vent works as it should hood opens and closes like factory. Inner fenders were cut to fit not just removed like most.
Glass: we have replaced every window glass in the truck including vent Windows and installed all new window seals on every window including full rebuild of the vent windows.
Lighting: All lights have been replaced and every light works as it should. Headlights Hi/Lo beam, parking/turn signals and rear tail lights and brake lights work as they should. All indicators on dash work also blue hi beam light and left and right green indicators flash.
Bed: the bed floor was able to be mounted with approx 10" of bed depth more than most. We used 5/8 cedar with dark stain and the 4 coats of Poly sanded between for a super deep look. Battery was relocated to under the bed with bracket holding all air ride relays.
Air ride: Front, Airlift 2500 bags with all brass fittings and 3/8 line. Also used Belltech 2.5 drop spindles. Rear, Thor bros S10 3 link that allows use of the factory fuel tank to leave room behind axle for all air ride components. Airlift 2600 bags with all brass fittings and 3/8 line also. We used a mini notch in the rear. So yes it will lay completely out and still had 10" of bed. Air ride components, Dual stealth black Viair 444 air compressors hooked to a 7 gallon air tank that fits between the frame rails. We used all brass fittings for all connections front to back and is all controlled by an electric 3 switch box in cab: front, both and rear. It's has a dual needle Viair gauge to see bag pressures. Also we installed very loud train horns under the bed with Klein switch on the dash.
Wheels and tires: Truck is riding on 15" jet black base coat/ clear coat smoothie wheels with brand new Coker wide whites. Less than 1000 mile on them. Also installed Chevy center caps.
Running Gear: We left the 4.3 liter Tbi engine in stock form because of lower miles approx 150k and great running. Cooling is handled by electric fan mounted to a aluminum radiator and also a transmission cooler keeping the 700R4 fully automatic tranny cool. 4 wheel disc brakes with the rear end being from a 2000 Gmc Envoy with disc brakes also.So it runs really good and stops on a dime.
Interior: We have completely redone the interior. All painted in Pulsar gray paint. Seat is factory seat with all new padding and covered in Hawaiian red vinyl very comfy. We did use Dynamat on floor for sound deadening. Also covered in jute padding with rubber floor mat. Brand new retro radio in the factory location but has iPod hookups. With 2 4x6 in dash and 2 6x9 behind seat.Gauges are dolphin gauges with all working including the electronic programmable speedometer. I have 2 kids so I left the shifter on the column so we can all ride. All cab rubber seals are new. All new sun visors, headliner and guides/brackets to hold it all in place. Truck does have heat that is extremely warm in he winter. Switch is also under dash to shut compressors on and off. We also installed Bear Claw latches and rebuilt every hinge with new springs and pins. Doors open and close awesome and don't fly open.
Summary: Truck looks like a 1954 Chevy truck should but drives like a modern S10. Obviously there are things here and there that can be tweaked to make perfect, but this trucks looks so sweet in any setting with the running boards on the ground. "how do you drive it that low they say". We have updated most everything on the truck so I'm sure I have forgotten some things. I do have a clean title in my name for the 1954 Chevy truck.
Feel free to ask any questions about this ride. I am very familiar with all work on this truck. All fabricating and suspension work was done by one of Asheville's leading Hot Rod Shops Primered Black
