This rare 4 speed El Caminostarted life as a V-6 4 Speed, rust free Arizona truck when I bought it in 2004 and drove it home to Houston with no issues. I've done minor cosmetic improvements since then as well as INSTALLED 3 chamber Flow master 2.5 inch dual exhaust, NEW FIREHAWK TIRES, Engine dress up kit, Front springs and Shocks, New door weather strips and headliner. Needs new seat covers (driver seat worn thru).
Space limitations forced me to park her outside and there are some rust issues - 1.) small spot bed surround stainless at driver side of back glass with no penetration; 2.) rt. rear lower back 1/4 panel body crease down paint bubbling; 3.) approx. 1x2 inch penetration on drivers side b column where the vinyl top ends and bubbling adjacent at rain gutter. There are alsoseveral bubbles showing up in roof under the vinyl top. Floors, cowl, doors, fenders and all glass -GOOD.
Lights, wipers, brakes, clutch -all GOOD. Spare tire is excellent and all hold downs etc. remain intact. This is a fun good driving project vehicle that is dependable and looks really nice from 20 feet. The engine is a low compression truck motor that needs a cam and lifters. It quiets down when warmed up but needs help especially if you push it above 3500 rpm. Runs smooth, sounds great, but is down on power - never was hot rod but could easily get there. Gear box is stock Saginaw with Hurst Indy t-handle shifter. Edelbrock Performer intake and carb, non-catalyst non-computer controlled. Factory strangulations removed.
I am including miscellaneous parts including a nice gas tank and sending unit that are clean and rust free, tie rods and sleeves (Moog), new Monroe air shocks,a pair of loaded front calipers (Bendix), new 4 core radiator in box for this truck and a decent dark blue tonneau cover (vinyl).
The dash and gauges are non functional - save the non standard tach. Power to factory gauges is disconnected and engine has incorrect sending units from the full size truck donor engine. Correct sending units are included -Icannot physically get under the dash any more due to my health.
Great drivable fixer - when did you last see a factory 4 speed El Camino? (Yeah I know GMC Caballero.)
