SUMMARY
2-owner Z06 that's logged only 5,740 milesWe've all witnessed the moment when a tough prizefighter becomes a world heavyweight champion. And for Team Corvette, that proud transition occurred during the sixth generation of their vaunted sports car. Sure, there'd been many instances of greatness up to that point: the original Sting Ray, the 'King of the Hill' ZR-1 and even the cult-adored C5 hardtop. But the 2005-2013 line-up, a roster that included this incredible Z06, is when a patriotic muscle car became a world-class sports car. Wrapping Le Mans-inspired athleticism in the sensory allure of brilliant Atomic Orange paint, this brutal Vette offers world-beating performance for about half the price of a stuffy European import. And if you enjoy lapping like a warrior and cruising like a king, it's your chance to step in to the ring!
BODYWORK/TRIM
With only 5,740 miles on its bright digital odometer, this showroom-fresh Chevy is an as-new garage queen that's assembly line perfect in virtually every way. The car's wide-body profile wears $300 of optional Atomic Orange Metallic 2-stage, which does an exceptional job of highlighting trim that's shared with the lauded 427 Convertible and attractive C6 Grand Sport. That trim begins at an aggressive fascia, progresses through a carbon fiber front-clip, and flows into re-engineered quarters. A subtle rear spoiler, cool "Z06" fender emblems and standard HID lighting mix tasteful form with convenient function. And it all adds up to one seriously capable sports car that'll show with the finest classics and run with the fastest challengers!
ENGINE
Like its incredible paint, this Corvette's engine highlights classic Chevy appeal with a virtual lifetime of technological improvement. Twisting 505 SAE-certified horsepower into a massive 470 lb./ft. of tire-shredding torque, the lightweight LS7 rumbling beneath the car's hood is a 21st century testament to the bowtie division's enduring small block V8. Founded in GM's very successful Corvette racing program, the brutal mill utilizes a forged crank, titanium rods, hypereutectic pistons and a high-lift cam to flat out whip pretty much anything with four wheels. A perfect amount of oxygen flows from an isolated filter element through a low-restriction, cross-flag-branded air tube to a familiar GM throttle body. That wind mixes with fuel in a lightweight composite intake on its way to C5R-inspired, CNC-ported cylinder heads, which are built with a combination of titanium and sodium-filled valves. When those valves open, spent gases roar through hydroformed headers, close-coupled catalytic converters and aggressive, vacuum-actuated mufflers. One of the most impressive aspects of the big displacement small block is a competition-bred dry sump lubrication system. And best of all, all that performance happily thrives on everyday pump gas!
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
Featuring a roster of hardware that was heavily influenced by the C6R, the C6 Z06 hangs an aluminum body structure over 1-piece hydroformed perimeter rails and a carbon composite floor. The car's wide, carbon fiber fenders cover a 4-wheel independent suspension that's complete with GM's impressive Active Handling system. At the center of those bones, a Tremec TR6060 6-speed engages a high capacity clutch to jerk a limited-slip differential and sporty, 3.42 gears. Speed-sensitive power rack-and-pinion steering ensures turn-in is light and constantly engaging. At the corners, a Delphi 4-channel antilock braking system clamps 6 and 4-piston calipers on massive cross-drilled rotors. And power pounds the pavement via optional chrome wheels, which spin 275/35ZR18 Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar radials in front of 325/30ZR19 Goodyear Eagle F1 Supercar radials.
INTERIOR
Behind the doors you'll find an Ebony leather interior that balances modern convenience with a fair amount of style. The car's power-adjustable seats are supple and supportive. A "CORVETTE" branded dash hangs electroluminescent telemetry between a small Head Up Display and optional infotainment, which pipes Navigation, MP3 playback and XM Radio through a 7-speaker Bose sound system. Below that dash, a broad console balances a short-throw shifter between clean carpet, metal foot pedals and "CORVETTE" branded sill plates. In front of the driver, a leather-wrapped steering wheel laps a standard tilt column. And naturally, all the luxuries you'd expect in a high dollar sports car are present and accounted for including: OnStar, cruise control, dual-zone climate control, Universal Home Remote, keyless entry with pushbutton start, power windows, programmable door locks, an auto-dimming mirror, and a standard theft deterrent system.
