2004 Chevy Suburban LS 1500
LowReserve - $1,500
This is our 2004 Chevy Suburban. We bought it new in 2004 so we are the original owners. It currently has 237,000 miles on it and it shows. It has been our family truckster for 12 years now. It still runs great and I’ve done a lot of work to it over the years to make it last so long. I had planned on keeping it until 300,000 but the wife and kids were ready for something newer. We have been driving this vehicle (towing a small trailer) all over the country up until a few weeks ago with no problems. We just came back from a 3,000 mile trip to Salt Lake City a few weeks ago.
Here are the standard features of the 2004 LS trim level (all work unless noted):
- Front AC with dual zone climate control
- Separate rear AC with rear controls
- Dual front airbags
- Cassette, AM/FM stereo with in dash single CD
- 4-wheel power ABS brakes
- Cruise control
- Auto-dimming rear view mirror
- Power locks with remote
- Running boards
- Auto head lights
- Fog lights (these don’t work anymore)
- Power mirrors
- Fold-down center console
- Power driver’s seat
- Alarm
- 17” alloy wheels (these were a dealer upgrade)
- Rear defogger
- Factory tint
- Intermittent wipers
Mechanically it is great. The engine runs great and does not leak or burn oil. The only thing wrong with the drivetrain is a leak around the pinion yoke on the differential. I’ve put a new pinion seal on it but that didn’t seem to help. Occasionally it will leak transmission fluid from the front yoke (where it goes into the transmission) but it hasn’t affected the fluid level. The front and rear AC both blow cold. All gauges work and the front power seat still works, although the control switch cover is broken. The switch still works; however, you just use the switch post to adjust the seat.
Although this is an LS trim level, the dealer installed leather upholstery that is still in good condition except for the driver’s seat which has a couple wear holes and spots. I’ve put vinyl seat covers on the front seats that ran me about $200. All four tires were recently replaced and they have less than 5,000 miles on them.
It has a class IV trailer hitch with a 7-pin connection and a four pin flat connector. It has an after-market brake controller but I haven’t used it in years and I’m not sure it still works, to be honest.
The cosmetic condition is very worn. It has numerous dings and scratches all over it from years of use and the hood has some oxidation spots on it. I’ve tried to include pics of the major cosmetic stuff. It has a large dent on the front right corner which bent the bumper. It also has a good size dent in the right rear fender area. The windshield has several chips in it and one crack.
It has a dealer installed overhead DVD system but it stopped working years ago and has been disconnected. The LCD screen is also damaged. I’ve cleaned it up as best I can but it’s an old car so there’s only so much I can do. It has several carpet stains from years of my kids (and wife) spilling drinks. I’ve shampooed the carpet to get the bigger ones as best I can. It still has that old car kinda musty smell, though. The roof liner is starting to come apart in several places but is not yet hanging loose. The power locks still work except for the back door, which sometimes doesn’t work and you have to lock or unlock the door with the key. The right rear passenger door locks but it makes a buzzing noise. All the power windows work.
The batteries have gone dead in the tire sensors so it shows “Service Tire Sensor” in the odometer messenger screen. The gear position LED indicator readout is also very faint and difficult to read.
I’ve maintained the oil change schedule religiously which is one reason why it runs so well. I do my own mechanic work so there are no service records. Here’s a list of all the things I’ve done to it at the 200,000 mark:
-New radiator and heater hoses
-New serpentine belt
-New oil pump
-New water pump
-New timing set
-New fan clutch
-New alternator
-New intake gasket (intake removed and cleaned)
-Removed and cleaned injectors and replaced O-rings
-New knock sensors
-Drained and replaced transmission fluid and filter
-Oil pan gasket
-Flushed brake system
-Replaced engine coolant
-New front brake pads and rotors at 226,000 (rear brakes still good)
-New shocks all the way around
-New speakers in front and back (cheap ones, but still sound good)
-New spark plugs and wires
-New fuel filter
-Replaced aluminum driveshaft with custom steel driveshaft and new u-joints
It had a new fuel pump and fuel sending unit installed at about 100,000. I have two keys and two remotes but only one is programmed to the vehicle. You can program the other, if needed. Instructions are on the internet.
I’ve tried to attach pics of everything. If you’d like to see it in person, message me and we can set up an appointment.
