It is true, Chevrolet never joined the “Woodie race” alongside Ford, Chrysler, and others with wood clad vehicles after World War II. As an alternative, Engineered Enterprises produced an aftermarket option for dealers with a custom made wood panel kit that could be attached to only the sides of the popular Fleetline model. It instantly converts the car’s already classic fastback body lines with a level of luxury many buyers hoped to afford and display going down the road. It’s hard to argue this car looks amazing even standing still, almost like its moving. The Fleetline design already offered a huge assortment of interesting features that included rubber front floor covering with carpet inserts, leather front armrests, concealed entrance steps with treads; rear assist handles, coat hooks, armrests with ashtrays, rope cord, foot rests, and an extra-large parcel shelf. Some would think designers were catering to the rear passengers as much as the front. Today, they very rarely come to market with this wood side presentation, especially in this remarkable condition, making them sure show winners at Chevrolet events and car shows!
We are very pleased to offer this 1948 Chevrolet Fleetline Country Club Aerosedan finished in Battleship Gray Metallic over Tan Striped Broadcloth interior. Options on this vehicle are abundant and include the Country Club wood side paneling, Harrison radiator overflow condenser mounted on firewall, AC engine oil filter accessory, Super Deluxe heater/defrost, windshield sun visor, side window vent visors, rare rear window louvered shades, added turn signals, amber GM fog lamps, cigarette lighter, Glare-Proof rearview mirror, Chevrolet AM radio, dash clock, dual outside mirrors, driver’s side spot light, front & rear bumperettes (winglets), bumper guards, reverse light, side skirts, white sidewall tires, rock guards, blue dot taillight lenses, split exhaust manifold allowing dual exhaust, and more!
Written history provided with this stunning example shares a story of this Chevrolet being sold from Quality Chevrolet Co. based in Wichita, KS to its original owner in Cozad, NE on February 1948. It later made its way to Sacramento, CA where it was cared for through 1979. It was frame up restored for the first time making its way to Boise, ID in 2013. The latest New Jersey owner has enjoyed this Fleetline for the past two years added only 150 miles or so. During the restoration, it was fully rebuilt frame-up and converted to a 12-volt electrical system utilizing a more efficient alternator. Don’t let that 6-volt appearing battery fool you. That is a modern 12-volt unit disguised for appearance only. It is in remarkably solid condition, and runs equally the same! The attention to detail restoring this example to stock specifications, while adhering to only period accessories, make this Aerosedan pleasing to everyone who sees it in person. It will come with a original dealer placard still attached to the deck lid, owner’s manual and dealership brochure. We encourage any interested parties to schedule an appointment to view this outstanding Chevrolet as soon as possible!
