SUMMARY
The beneficiary of a $65K restoration that's logged only 465 milesHere's a challenge: Name a generation of Chevrolet trucks that can't be transformed into crowd-pleasing head turners with little more than common bolt-on hardware. The answer? There isn't one. From Task Force beauties to venerable S-10s, Chevrolet has spent the last hundred years consistently delivering universally appealing fodder for purists and hot rodders alike. This unassuming 3100 is a great example of a solid slice of Americana that's benefitted from plenty of cool upgrades. The recipient of a frame-off restoration that's logged less than 500 miles, the truck features clean aesthetics, an air conditioned cockpit, a tough automatic driveline and a massaged 350 that's guaranteed to haul plenty of, well, whatever you need to haul. Ready for a pickup you'll be proud to show off? Take a close look at this awesome Chevy!
BODYWORK/TRIM
Fully sorted and ready to roll, this super cool classic recently received a roof-to-rocker makeover that's set off by a smooth combination of Pearl White and Metallic Maroon 2-stage. Under that high quality pigment, an incredibly straight fuselage hangs solid panels that are supplemented with a bit of fresh sheetmetal. That massaged profile features better-than-factory alignment that's seated in even planes and tight gaps. And that carefully finished body presents very well, supplementing timeless blue collar aesthetics with serious street rod swagger.
Naturally, the truck's $65K rebuild included a roster of fresh bolt-ons. At the front of its body, a familiar chrome grille hangs requisite parking lamps between a polished bumper, halogen headlights and a stainless-trimmed, Chevrolet-branded hood. Behind that bonnet, a split windshield leads a 3-window greenhouse that's traced with polished wipers, a prominent antenna and a small driver's mirror. Beneath that mirror, coated running boards bridge the gap between chrome door handles and a flush fuel filler. And behind that filler, a second polished bumper frames polished exhaust tips, polished taillights and a smooth tailgate that reveals a fresh wood bed.
ENGINE
Pop this pickup's clean hood and you'll find 5.7 liters of reliable Vortec small block. Straight from the factory, that proven V8 combines a sturdy iron foundation with LT1-inspired heads to create big power and plenty of low-end torque. At the front of the engine, GM serpentine components spin a modern alternator opposite a Delphi AC compressor. At the top of the engine, a Chevrolet-branded air cleaner caps a Holley carburetor, which rides between a quality Lokar throttle linkage and lightweight Edelbrock intake. Sparks are sequenced through an aftermarket HEI distributor, which jolts JEGS 8.0 Pow'r Wires. Spent gases roar through a slick pair of block hugger headers. And cooling comes courtesy of a beefy Northern radiator that's fitted with large SPAL puller fans. Aesthetically, both the Jet Black mill and its assortment of bright accessories seem right at home inside their smooth, 2-tone frame. And details, like a polished breather, polished valve covers, a polished expansion tank and a polished brake booster, ensure this Chevy has looks to match its performance.
DRIVETRAIN/TRANSMISSION
A mere 465 miles removed from the restoration shop, the bottom of this 3100 is every bit as nice as one might expect. That said, it's very clear the truck was built to be driven, as proven components and durable finishes create a chassis that's virtually unfazed by bouts of inclement weather. The spry Vortec sends power to a smooth 700R4 4-speed, which spins a 9-inch Ford axle that's fitted with a posi-traction differential and meaty, 3.73 gears. That tough drivetrain pushes a full TCI suspension, which mixes a beefy sway bar and modern coil-over-shocks with a 4-bar rear-clip. Tracking is provided by power rack-and-pinion steering. Quick stops are a cinch thanks to power-assisted disc brakes. At the center of the floor, aluminized exhaust pipes make good use of welded, dual-chamber mufflers. At the corners of the chassis, stainless-trimmed steelies twist 235/70R16 American Classic whitewalls around Gloss Black paint. And everything, from the truck's finned transmission cooler to its relocated fuel tank, is ready to pound the pavement!
INTERIOR
When you pop this pickup's doors, you'll find a comfortable cloth cockpit that's simple yet stylish. Top dead center, a painted and stainless-trimmed dash hangs Classic Instruments telemetry and a modern Kenwood head unit above hardware for modern climate control. The passengers park on a broad bench seat. Under that seat, a rubber floor mat bridges the gap between convenient battery posts and stylish billet foot pedals. At the sides of that flooring, body-matched doors hang small panels behind elegant chrome handles. And in front of the driver, a polished, tilting column spins a wood-rimmed, Chevrolet-branded steering wheel.
