1964 Chevrolet Other Base Description

A street legal race car from 1964 with original black and yellow California plates.

Available for the first time. A tribute to the old NASCAR days with a period correct build of a 1964 Grand National (NASCAR) 409 Chevy Biscayne. Modeled after Jr Johnson's 1963 Mystery Engine Impala. 1964 was the year General Motors actually pulled out of the factory support for NASCAR. Competition was fierce with dodges....ford....and the 409's reliability issues were a problem for GM and with the 427 outlawed, they bailed. This is the car that never was. An original 1962 409, 425 HP built by famed 409 expert Jack Gibbs of 409 Chevy Performance and Classic Muscle Cars in California. The build sheet is available with all the goodies and the horsepower is estimated to be 540. The Borg Warner 4 speed with scatter shield connects to a positraction rear end with 355 gears.

Two exhaust systems! The period correct racing open headers running out the side of the car behind the driver and a full exhaust system, tucked up high that exits the rear with the "Turbo" mufflers. An awesome sound either way you go. All controlled electronically from the driver’s seat.

The wheels are custom powder coated steelies to match the interior and the tires are new BF Goodrich.

The interior is period correct 1964 Biscayne upholstery with the added 1964 Impala SS bucket seats with custom matching seat covers. The dash has been modified (no cutting) to allow for S&W vintage gauges as back in the day. The roll cage is period correct and even has the resting post that the driver used to rest against on those long 500 miles of left hand turns.

Upgraded suspension, with golden west upper and lower control arms, new springs and large sway bars front and back. The brakes remain stock drums that do a fine job. The X frame has been reinforced in the rear to handle the horsepower.

It's amazing how the technology has advanced since 1964. That’s the beauty of the build, it's like it was in the day when drivers in open face helmets, short sleeve shirts, khaki pants and loafers drive these cars to the edge.

Bid with confidence.
