1979 Chevrolet Blazer K5 Description

You're bidding on a beautiful frame-on restored classic rare 2 owner Arizona 100% rust free 1979 Chevrolet K5 Blazer Convertible 4x4 that runs and drives as good as it looks.
I have 40 years experience restoring classic cars and trucks and strive for both mechanical and aesthetic excellence as documented in my 12000 plus eBay feedback rating at 100% for 17 years.
I acquired this truck from the 2nd owner, a 78 year old gentleman from West Texas whose health was failing. He began the restoration some years earlier and did the best he could
He started the right way by professionally installing a SBC GM Goodwrench 350 C.I.D. crate engine. That was 20k miles ago as he drove it while he restored it.
Engine runs perfect. Smooth quiet & powerful. Far better than stock. Pics show Goodwrech tag on both valve covers.
Starts every time with a click of the key. No leaks, no knocks, no smoke, no issues. Just smooth reliable power like you expect from a new SBC crate motor.
Runs super cool since we just refurbished the 4 core radiator & installed a new thermostat and fresh coolant.
Freshly tuned & timed with new everything including HEI distributor, fuel pump, plugs, plug wires, air filter, fluids & Edelbrock 1406 4bbl carburetor. Electric choke works as designed.
I'm anal about fluid leaks. They're not acceptable to me. Although motor ran great I noticed the valve cover gaskets, the oil pan and the rear main seal had very slight weeping so I replaced them all.
I also noticed the stock TH350 transmission and NP203 transfer case were leaking from subtle cracks in the cases.
The old man explained that he had a drive shaft u-joint failure and when the shaft bound up it managed to crack those cases.
Fine. Good riddance. There's nothing more onerous than those old 203 transfer cases. They weigh more than a stuffed hog and are a pitiful chunk of heavy machinery.
I immediately removed them and installed a much heavier duty rebuilt TH350 with shift kit and NP205 gear driven transfer case from a '73 3/4 Ton Suburban that I had waiting in the wings for a rock crawler project.
Of course they all work perfectly as designed with new seals and fluids. No leaks. No issues.
The old man had already installed a nice Skyjacker Soft Ride 4 inch lift. I just made sure everything was tight by re-torqueing the bolts.
I installed new Energy Suspension 4 inch front Bump Stops.
The shocks and leafs were newer and worked great with a very plush ride but the 33 inch tires were old and dry so the Weds. before Thanksgiving I bought 4 new 33x12.5x15 BFG KO All Terrains.
I had them mounted and balanced on 4 nice 15x8 Factory Chevy Rally Rims that I had paint color matched.
4 Billet aircraft aluminum 1.5" wheel spacers with grade 10 steel studs mounted to existing studs with Locktite were also added giving the truck a 3 inch wider stance.
The rule is when you go taller you also need to go wider.
That new meat wheel deal was over $1300 bucks cash!
The steering gear box was then rebuilt and the frame modified with the frame reinforcent kit profesionally welded on. If that's not done to these old 4x4 Chevy's you're asking for ruin if you go off road.
Rear differential - GM Corporate 12 Bolt (30 Spline) 3.73 gear Positraction rear end with fresh fluids. No leaks. Much stronger than the 10 bolt with 28 splines that began appearing around this time.
Dana 44 front end. 3.73 gear. Open carrier Fresh fluid. No leaks. Warn Premium manual lockout hubs.
This Blazer is a CONVERTIBLE, meaning the fiberglass top is easily removable.
During restoration the top was removed and the exterior was treated with multiple coats of Duplicolor spray on bed liner.
The truck also has a frame mounted class III receiver hitch out back as well as chrome step rails mounted on the sides.
New Goodyear wiper blades were also installed.
The old man had 80% of the interior nicely done with new seats and dash plus glove leather dash pad.
All the power windows and gauges, lights and signals work as designed.
The radio deck slot was intentionally left blank so new owner could design their own sound system.
AC blows cold. Heat blows hot. AC Has been professionally converted to modern 134A freon.
Rear window cranks up & down manually as designed from the exterior with new crank handle and internal clutch pack from LMC Truck.
The crank used to roll the rear tailgate window up & down from the interior is missing and not available from LMC so keep your eye out for it.
The overhead dome light is missing the plastic cover.
Zero rust on this truck. Tucson, Arizona is where the US Air Force mothballs all their old planes in case they wish to press them back into service precisely because it's so dry that metals don't oxidize here.
If you were to scrape all the rust off this truck and weigh it there wouldn't even be an ounce worth of dust. On a scale of 10 it would be a 10 as far as lack of rust
New brakes on all 4 corners with new rear wheel cylinders.
New professionally installed windshield with antenna built in.
No rust and no bondo anywhere. Original paint color was dog caca brown. Original paint is still on firewall and under dash.
At some point the color was changed to GM metallic Green.
Truck was just professionally repainted with PPG metallic green. Lots of time and money into this restoration.
The BEFORE pictures show how body was perfectly straight and sanded down before new paint.
It does have a wrinkle in the chrome front bumper shown in the front shot picture.
It does have an older dull tint film on most of the window glass that can easily be removed.
Vehicle comes with Clean Arizona Notarized title. Not salvaged. Truck never wrecked. Never had rust or bondo. 175k miles on chassis. 20k miles on new engine. Fresh trans and t-case and drive shafts.
Old man installed odometer cluster from wrecked GMC Jimmy that had just turned over 100k to zero and was then incorporated when new crate engine was installed so odometer reads 20k to match drive train.
Of course most all this work performed comes with receipts.
While this 38 year old antique truck is by no means perfect everrything possible has been touched except where otherwise noted.
