Sadly it is time to say goodbye to the Merica Mobile, which has been a many year labor of love. Shortly after completing it I moved to Africa, where I spend most of my time, so it is time for it to go to a new home, where someone can appreciate it more often.
The Blazer was bought out of Colorado, and was a 99% rust free truck. The previous owner had put a crate 350 in it, which has less than 5000 miles on the clock now. After putting in the new engine, he ran out of steam on the project, and I got it as a running and driving truck, albeit an ugly one. Here is what I have done:
Interior
The seats were taken out of a low mileage wrecked Jeep Patriot. The passenger seat folds all the way down and slides forward to make it easy to get into the rear seat, which can also be folded down. I put in two aftermarket seatbelts in the back, so it is technically a 4 seater although there is room for 5. Very large center console is made by Tuffy, and is lockable for security when the top is off. Also has the full carpet made specifically for the Blazer. The carpet has been dirtied in some areas, as you can see in the pictures, from tailgating and good times.
Stereo is a new RetroSound unit (dash is uncut), with twin MTX wakeboard boat speakers mounted to the roll bar (https://www.mtx.com/tm652wb-b-mtx-marine-coaxial-speakers) Unit has a front and rear Aux input, with a long Aux cord that goes to the back of the truck, so that you can control music from the back when tailgating. I have Kenwood speakers I was planning on mounting in the front, but I never ended up putting them in as I didn’t want to cut the doors and I didn’t think they were really needed. That said, the speakers will be included in the sale, the speaker wire is in place and ready to be connected.
Engine, Drivetrain and Suspension
The engine is a crate 350 with 4668 miles on it, has an Edelbrock carb. It fires right up and runs perfectly. I have included a video of the engine starting when cold. A set of Hedman Headers feed into Magnaflow Exhaust that exits from the side. The truck sounds great, but it is loud!
The previous owner put a lift in, but the vehicle didn’t sit evenly. I put in new Skyjacker 2.5” lift in front (http://www.amazon.com/Skyjacker-C225S-Softride-Leaf-Spring/dp/B000K0WLV6?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00)
While the back has a shackle flip kit, and 2” blocks to get the stance just right. The lift height looks perfect with the LT33X12.50R-15 Goodyear Wrangler DuraTrac tires- which have less than 2000 miles on them. (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp?tireMake=Goodyear&tireModel=Wrangler+DuraTrac&sidewall=Outlined%20White%20Letters&partnum=325QR5WDTOWL&tab=Sizes) The wheels were purchased new as well, and are Ultra Type 164 15”. I’ve put in a speedo recalibration device, so that what appears on the speedometer and odometer is accurate, to account for the larger tire size. Despite the lift and tires, the steering stabilizer helps the truck go down the highway at 75 without issue. The steering is tight and dead on, it drives like a lifted truck, but there is no drama.
Body and Exterior
There were a few patch panels put in in the normal places to fix some slight issues present when I got it, but the body is very solid now. Replaced the original hood with a cowl hood. It was painted in Gunmetal Grey, and looks incredible, even with the black hard top. There are some chips and small paint issues, normal wear and tear from a few years of use. I have included pictures of the paint issues. The rear bumper is new, and I added the custom black Chevy sticker to the tailgate. The front bumper and outer grill are original to the truck, and show a bit of wear and tear and oxidation- please see the pics for more detail. The inner grill is a new billet grill, but can easily be replaced with a classic grill if you want. Stock Blazer headlights are pretty weak, so I put in a new wiring harness and installed the lights from a 2011 Wrangler- which are very bright. One of the side lenses has had both chrome rings fall off, I believe it was a defective product, but these are $10 and take 2 minutes to put in- pics attached, but you can’t really tell these are missing unless you look closely.
Hard Top
I rarely drove with the hard top on, but I refurbished the top. There were cracks and wear that was epoxied over, and all the seals were replaced. The exterior was painted black, and the interior of the top was painted silver. The top is totally functional and keeps out the rain, but isn’t in the best condition- please see the pics.
I have tens of thousands of dollars and hundreds of hours into this vehicle, and a folder of receipts and summary of the work done. This Blazer was rarely driven in the rain, and never driven in winter. It was stored in a garage with a car cover on (made specifically for this model Blazer- included in sale) when not in use.
There are some extra parts included in the sale, as you can see in the pics. Rear chrome taillight surrounds- new in packaging, as well as chrome door carpet thresholds. I didn’t install because it was more chrome than I wanted.
This is the Blazer you have been waiting before. Buy it and drive it right away, it is ready to go. This truck turns heads everywhere it goes, and it is the perfect warm weather car. Get it now and be smiling all summer.
Serious buyers can take it for a test drive, and of course have it inspected.
