BODYWORK/TRIM
The beneficiary of a quality nut-and-bolt restoration, this X11 Super Sport is the product of A LOT of time spent sweating details. From its straight panels to its PPG O-So-Sexy tri-coat, the car's rock-solid metal displays great craftsmanship that was completed over the course of six years. Not surprisingly, every seam on this Main Street king has been aligned to better-than-factory fit. When you step close to the car's mirror-like pigment, you'll find flat surfaces that have traveled mere shake-down miles since they were stripped to bare metal. And ultimately, it all adds up to one very impressive classic that's poised to show or cruise!
With balanced proportions and crisp detailing, the first generation Camaro is an inherently good-looking design. At the front of this coupe, an "SS" branded grille hangs bright headlights above a polished bumper, clear parking lamps and a familiar D80 chin spoiler. At the top of that grille, a Camaro-branded header leads the eye to a familiar Super Sport hood, mirrored wipers and new glass that's caged in straight stainless frames. Below that hood, the car's smooth profile centers a chrome mirror, traditional door handles and optional quarter louvers above fresh emblems, small marker lamps, and stainless rocker trim. And at the back of that profile, a second D80 spoiler frames factory taillights, a second polished bumper and a fourth "SS" badge.
ENGINE
Hoist this Chevy's fully finished hood and you'll find 350 cubic inches of polished and painted small block that's wedged inside a clean, highly detailed frame. At the top of the block, a polished air cleaner hangs a reusable Spectre filter element above a coated Edelbrock carburetor that's traced in braided fuel lines. Under that carb, a polished Edelbrock Performer RPM intake reflects polished Chevrolet valve covers, a polished Chevrolet breather and trick wingnut ties. At the back of those covers, an HEI distributor sequences fire through loomed MSD Super Conductor plug wires. Beneath those wires, coated Hedman Hedders make quick work of charred dinosaurs. In front of those shorties, polished brackets and pulleys spin a coated water pump between a polished alternator and polished power steering components. And details like corrugated tubing, a tagged Delco battery, polished fender braces, a polished oil pan and a Chevrolet-themed core support cover reflect a glossy engine bay.
DRIVETRAIN/SUSPENSION
The smooth small block twists torque through a chrome-trimmed Turbo-Hydramatic 350 3-speed, strung in front of a chrome-caped 10-bolt axle that's finished with a posi-traction differential. That tough driveline rides a fully rebuilt suspension that's enhanced with rear air shocks and a Summit Racing rear sway bar. That tweaked chassis turns thanks to modern power steering. Power-assisted stops are provided by GM discs and color-keyed drums. Exhaust floats from the aforementioned headers in to large-diameter pipes, which employ aggressive Flowmaster mufflers. And power meets the pavement through stainless-trimmed Super Sport wheels, which spin 235/60R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As in front of 255/60R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/As.
INTERIOR
Open this F1's solid-closing doors and you'll find a mostly stock interior that's trimmed in a tasteful combination of faux wood and polished stainless. Front-and-center, firm vinyl seats prop factory headrests over factory lap belts. In front of those seats, a canted dash hangs factory telemetry above a direct-fit head unit. At the base of that dash, an unrestored console frames snazzy 4-pack gauges in front of a factory horseshoe shifter. Below that console, color-keyed floor mats protect plush loop carpet. At the edges of that carpet, Standard door panels center small armrests and correct chrome handles above requisite Fisher sills. The driver holds an "SS" branded steering wheel. And, behind the cockpit, a super clean trunk stacks a full-size spare tire on a correct jack and lug tool.
