This truck is unique among 70-72 C10’s in several ways:
Acquired in late 2012 from original owner. Restoration began in early 2013 and recently completed.
Amazing photograph: original owner took photo with his family in front of this truck the day he brought it home from the dealer in 1971!
Freemont, CA built rust-free truck ideal for a frame-off restoration
An original ‘factory’ black, 402 big block, short-bed, stepside C10 truck -- rare
The “option sticker” was still intact on the inside of the glovebox
Amazingly, the factory “build sheet” was found in the springs behind the original bench seat.It was extremely fragile and recovered in pieces (see photo).Important details are visible verifying VIN, options, build location, etc.
No expense spared throughout restoration.
Highlights mechanical / exterior:
402 big block rebuilt .060 over, balanced, with beefed up components including forged pistons, steel crank kit, HEI ignition, aluminum intake, Quick fuel 680 cfm carb, “Thumper” cam with lifters and matching valve springs, ARP rod bolts, hardened pushrods, Sanderson ceramic coated (black) headers, and custom exhaust through FlowMasters. Dyno’d at 460+ HP and over 460 torque.
Complete best-in-class Vintage Air system including full front-runner serpentine kit including high output alternator and new power steering pump.
New 4 core aluminum (painted black) radiator complemented by dual electric fans and Vintage Air trinary switch.
Replacement anodized factory power steering booster and all components including new stainless steel break lines.Factory front disc and rear drum brakes completely rebuilt.Suspension / brakes are essentially stock: all springs, components, shocks, bushings etc replaced with factory parts.Truck is NOT lowered or raised.
Fuel tank relocated during restoration to under-bed location in rear.
Beautiful new oak bed with all stainless steel retaining components.
P255/70R15 BF Goodrich Radial T/A’s on new 15x8 Chevy wheels
New Yellow Top battery not shown in pictures.
Frame and other relevant components were professionally sand blasted and black powder coated.
NOS outer front grill.
Highlights interior:
Original “custom” interior package was replaced with optional “red” factory Cheyenne package, including:
Full woodgrain gauge package including factory tachometer;
Woodgrain covered glove box and Cheyenne badging.
Factory style (but rare) bucket seats and matching console with cup holders.
Matching red dash pad, door panels, armrests, headliner, color coded seat belts.
Original factory ‘Wonder Bar’ radio still in truck. Functional but needs work.
New glass including optional split rear window.
Black factory replacement carpet.
Special vintage Corvette wood steering wheel restored to perfection.
Other misc items to note:
115,000 original miles before restoration began.
Block and heads are “correct” Chevrolet truck coded 402 big block (with correct date codes), but it is not the numbers matching block.Original owner switched the motor with another 402 equipped 1971 truck many years ago.
Remaining drivetrain was original.Turbo 400 was rebuilt and original 3.07 “open” rearend was rebuilt with new internals: bearings, axles, ring, pinion and spider/carrier to make it a 3.73 posi-trac.
Original sheet metal used in restoration except: (1) driver’s side door replaced with 70-72 C10 truck door (due to previously “fixed” dent in original door); (2) hood replaced with quality after-market “big block” hood (original rust free hood was accidentally destroyed early in the restoration), and (3) tailgate replaced.
This truck was restored to look factory, with the only visible external non-stock appearance being the big block hood. The interior is meant tobe stock using then optional Cheyenne trim components. The only exception is the Vintage Air conditioning controller and the special wood steering wheel. Of course lifting the hood shows numerous performance modifications.
This truck has never before been listed for sale. I'm not interested in any trades, partial or otherwise. Please, serious cash inquiries only.
