The Corvair second generation arrived for model year 1965, noted for its lack of a “B” pillar and a new fully independent suspension replacing the original swing axle rear suspension. The Corvair used coil springs at each wheel.
The standard 95 hp (71 kW; 96 PS) and optional 110 hp (82 kW; 112 PS) engines were carried forward from 1964. All engines got some of the heavy-duty internal parts from the Turbocharged engine for better durability.
New refinements appeared on the 1965 redesign. A much better heater system, larger brakes borrowed from the Chevelle, a stronger differential ring gear, a Delcotron alternator (replacing the generator), and significant chassis refinements were made.
This example is reported to have only12,056 original miles and it drives, operates and looks every bit the part. The body and undercarriage arestraight and rust free. It shows no signs of damage or past issues. The car was undercoated (likely at the selling dealer) and this contributed to staying rust free and adds additional sound damping to the cabin.
The paint was refreshed a couple years ago in its original white color. The brightwork excellent with the only apparent flaw being a small ding in the center of the front bumper.
The 110hp, dual carbureted Engine runs fantastic. Its quiet and smooth, delivering its power just as it did 52 years ago. The automatic Transmission shifts smoothly and operates just as it should. The ride is amazingly quiet and smooth. Driving this car will take you back in time as if you were driving this car 50+ years ago.
The doors shut properly and easily. The alignment is factory correct. The windows operate with two finger ease and fit as they should. The original, red interior is practically flawless. The instruments are bright and crisp. The carpets, door panels and rocker moldings all look new.
If you’re looking for an inexpensive nostalgic car that has great looks an innovative drive train and is beautifully preserved, this is your next collectable car.
