Presented for your consideration is this collector’s grade, show quality 1967 Chevelle Malibu 327/275– with 22K original miles! Yes, you saw correctly! 22K original miles! This is the closest thing to a time capsule that you can get for a 50 year old classic like this! While the Chevelle SS and its clone counterparts are plentiful abound, within the marketplace, a factory loaded Chevelle Malibu, in near showroom condition, such as this one, is truly a needle in the haystack! And unlike the customarily stripped down Chevelle 396 SS and its clones, this Malibu comes loaded: ps, pb, ac, tilt, cruise control, limited slip differential, bucket seats, floor shifter, etc.
This is a numbers matching vehicle with a solid rust free body. The undercarriage was undercoated sometime prior to my ownership in 2007, which can only be assumed that it was done by its first owner, given its low mileage. The butternut yellow paint is original and does have a couple of touch-up dots here and there, but barely noticeable. (See pics) The interior is all original and the Madrid vinyl is in superb condition, which feels more like leather! This time capsule is not 100% flawless, but we’re not claiming it to be. (Small patches in the trunk interior pan has light air rust – see pic) Any imperfection on this car is miniscule compared to the overall aura of this classic! It is not a frame-on or frame-off restoration, which makes its condition all the more remarkable. The totality of its overall condition speaks highly of the lineage of its prior owners who were dedicated to ensuring that this classic would be around for its 50th birthday and beyond!
This vehicle has always been garage kept and its fluids and maintenance routinely performed. It does get started frequently and driven around the neighborhood to keep all moving parts limber. The vinyl top, presumed original, is tight with no sags, bubbles, rips or scratches. Looks just like it did back in 67! The cruise control does work, but will intermittently cut out at times. I suspect that the cruise control transducer needs to be either cleaned or refurbished. Either way, its intact, which cruise control for a 67 Chevelle is very rare in itself!
Certain aspects of this vehicle had to modernize with the times. The original four wheel drum brakes were replaced with four wheel disc brakes. The original radiator was no longer functional and was replaced with an aluminum performance one. The original points system was replaced with an HEI system, while the AC compressor was changed over to R-34. A set of four new tires were purchased in February 2016. (Firestone FR710) Lastly, the exhaust system is newer and comparable to its stock predecessor. These changes simply promote the car’s vintage mystique and enhance its functionality for use in the modern day.
The original instrument cluster only had the gas gauge, on the left, and a cosmetic trim plate, on the right, as was such for the Malibus back then.I simply replaced the gauges with the SS gauges for a more enhanced look. (The original fuel gauge and trim plate are included.) The left gauge now has the split fuel/battery gauge and the right gauge had the split temp/oil gauge. The battery, temp and oil gauges are non-functioning, but the hookups for them are connected to the back of them for actual usage. Currently, the gauges, other than the fuel gauge, are merely for looks. In addition to the original gauge face plates, also included is the original hubcaps, OEM air filter housing element, original points distributor cap and after-market replacement interior carpeting.
This vehicle has had three professional appraisals done in 2003, 2005 and 2017. The value of this beautiful vehicle continues to appreciate with the passing of each year and can easily hold its own in the mid $40k range, as evinced from its appraisal from this year.
