1999 CHEVROLET CAMARO SS
41,140 original miles!
LS1 with 6 speed transmission
I have owned this car for the last 10 years. It has a rebuilt title, I purchased it after it was fixed and do not know the extent of work that was done to pass its inspection. From having the car completely torn down to the bare shell myself I can tell that there was no frame damage of any kind as all the rails and wheel well structures look brand new with the original paint still. I repainted the exterior of the car around 9 years ago; the hockey stripes and area in front of the hood scoop are paint under the final clear coat. The stripes almost look black however they are a dark charcoal metallic color and the car is pewter. The 427 emblems on the hood scoop are stickers and could be removed. All of the front end body components including the headlights are original GM parts with the exception of the VFN fiberglass SS style hood. The original radio antenna was removed and has a cover plate welded on the inside before painting and you can't tell it was ever there. The entire car has never had any rust on it with the exception of some of the aftermarket components I installed having some surface rust (rear end, frame ties and exhaust). The paint is still in very good condition but there are some minor chips and scratches. I had a local sheet metal shop CNC plasma cut a custom front air splitter out of 14 gauge stainless steel that is ½" longer than stock. The rear panel has SLP urethane carbon fiber Camaro letter inserts and a GM performance division and Dale Earnhardt Chevrolet emblem.
Engine and drivetrain work:
The LS1 has been completely rebuilt. It has a Thunder Racing T-Rex camshaft, FAST brand 90mm throttle body and intake manifold. The balancer bolt was changed to a reusable ARP bolt. Valve springs are dual spring Comp Cams with Titanium valve retainers. The heads were changed to 241 casting heads but have not had any work done to them. Fuel rails are also FAST brand. SLP ram air scoop kit that draws air from in front of the radiator. The air lid is aftermarket and there is a K&N air filter installed. The headers are Hooker super comp full length headers going into an aftermarket y-pipe that has the catalytic converters removed. For the rest of the exhaust, it has the Mufflex 4" catback system installed. I didn't like having a single outlet so I purchased a Hooker aero chamber dual outlet muffler and had the 4" inlet plasma cut off the Flowmaster muffler and welded onto the new muffler and looks like it was purchased this way. The exhaust tips are Hooker 3.5" stainless steel versions. There are also electric exhaust cutouts I added later to the y-pipe at the turns. It was tuned to run perfectly on 93 octane by customls1tuning.com about 7 years ago when they were in Columbus Ohio and made around 440 rwhp. The bellhousing has been replaced with a Quicktime blowproof bellhousing. The clutch is a Monster Clutch brand Stage 1 twin disc setup and I installed a Tick performance remote bleeder (long flex line shown up along driver inner fender). The shifter is a B&M Pro 5.0 unit. The drive shaft is a custom ordered 3" Strange Engineering chromoly drive shaft with 1350 forged u-joints at both ends, Summit Racing P/N STR-U1702. I replaced the transmission yoke with an aftermarket one having the 1350 joint. The rearend is a 9" Ford style Moser Engineering housing and axle package with a Strange nodular 9+ center section. The differential is a Detroit Truetrac limited slip posi unit and has 4.11 Motive brand gears.
Also under the hood I put on the red Corvette covers. I also installed a new GM (90's truck) hood light in the area where the battery originally was. These are nice because they have an 18 foot wind up power cord so it can reach all around the car.
Suspension and brake work:
The entire suspension has been replaced with all Spohn Performance brand parts. The one exception being the BMR brand strut tower brace. Spohn components include: tubular k member and motor mounts, tubular adjustable upper and lower A arms, non adjustable lower rear control arms, adjustable panhard rod bar and adjustable torque arm with driveshaft safety loop that attaches to cross member rather than the transmission. Edelbrock brand weld in frame ties I installed long before the roll cage. Aftermarket larger solid front and rear sway bars. I welded on the lower control arm relocation brackets but they are currently set in the original height position. Wheel studs are ARP extended length. The wheels are OEM GM wheels, Q10 RPO code Spyder design from a 2009 Z06 Corvette (made by Speedline wheels in Italy). They are all four 18" front wheels that I had powdercoated gloss black. The center caps are GM accessories Corvette Racing with the Jake logo. I installed brand new CTS-V calipers front and rear. Fronts are 6 piston and the rears are 4 piston Brembo calipers. The rotors are factory GM rotors for a C6 Z06 Corvette. Front rotors are GM P/N 22812086, 14" diameter x 1.26" thick. Rear rotors are GM P/N 22812096, 13.39" diameter x 1.02" thick. The brake pads are Hawk Performance HPS street pads. The fronts were an easy install where I only drilled out the original mounting holes larger and installed a spacer. The rears were first able to be accomplished since the rear end has fixed axles rather than the GM c-clip style. The end bracket was machined for the correct width spacing and new mounting holes drilled. I welded a plate on the backside of the original plate to ensure it would never break since a lot of material was removed from the front side. The flex brake lines are custom ordered from Kore3 to have the Camaro line end and CTS-V caliper end and are stainless steel braided lines. The ABS system still works as it should and was intended to. I never did get around to installing the emergency brake components however all of the original Camaro components for the wheel are included and will convert over since the Corvette also uses the inner drum hat style emergency brake. There is a tow bar mounted and reinforced to the front bumper bar. The coil springs installed are the original Eibach rear springs and I installed Eibach Sportline springs up front that lowered the car a little. It has the original Bilstein shocks all around too.
Interior work:
The dash is in great condition with no warping or cracks. The only issue is on the passenger airbag cover there are a few scratches (see photo). The original headliner is also in great condition with no tears or sagging. I recovered the original leather seats with covers purchased from camarocentral.com. The new covers are black leather with cloth houndstooth inserts. The original carpet and floor mats are in like new condition with no stains or holes. I installed a new factory convertible top switch that controls the electric exhaust cutouts. The battery (Optima red top) has been relocated to the spare tire well, sitting on a factory GM truck battery tray to properly secure it and look more professional. It also has a disconnect switch that exits through the bowtie emblem and remote battery connect plugs right next to it under the passenger taillight. The roll cage is from Wolf racecraft and I had the shop that installed the seat covers cut the carpet out around the cage tying to the floor. I didn't get the chance to have them do the cutouts on the rear speaker grills, however they are included and in great shape. The instrument cluster has a whiteface gauge overlay installed. The shifter knob is a white cue ball from Hurst and has the 6 speed pattern engraved into it. I replaced the shifter boot ring with the metal upgrade from 6 liter eater online as well as installing their passenger window motor speed relay fix kit. I installed a small fire extinguisher behind the driver seat that is attached via a quick disconnect cord to the roll cage. The 12 disc changer shows an ERR code and currently doesn't work, I haven't gone into the dealer to see what the error code is. Since the original antenna was removed it has a signal booster installed. All of the speakers have been replaced with Polk Audio coaxial speakers. The plastic trim throughout the interior is in very good condition however there are some barely noticeable scratches as you would expect for a well cared for used car. The airbag sensor isn't installed and the airbag light is on, I have never had the sensor for it. Original owners manual with folder and plastic courtesy keys in like new condition. I also have an SLP car cover with the Camaro SS marker up front.
