Up for sale is a ’50 Chevy 3100 5-Window. This truck received a frame-off restoration completed in late 2013. It has been driven less than 1000 miles since that time. Additional photos can be seen here: http://s157.photobucket.com/user/jss1956/slideshow/
Mechanical & Chassis
Frame cleaned, coated with POR-15 and painted. The original closed tube rear end was completely rebuilt. The ring & pinion were replaced with a Patrick’s 3:55:1 kit for highway driving.Rear leaf springs and all shocks are new. In the stopping department, the braking system was updated with a modern master cylinder and all lines replaced. The front brakes are new disc and rear are the original rebuilt standard drums. Transmission is the original 3-on-the-tree. The original 216 was running when pulled and was replaced with a 235 from a ’55 Chevy Bel-Air. The original 216 engine will be sold with the truck. The 235 was professionally rebuilt by a local engine builder. The electrical system has been converted to 12 volt and the entire truck rewired and a new alternator installed.
Interior
The heater was rebuilt and a new 12 volt motor installed. All interior and exterior lights have been replaced. The wiper motor has been updated to a 12 volt 2-speed unit. The speedo has been rebuilt but measures slow due to the 3:55 gears. Manual turn signals have been installed and work great. There is an original radio in the dash that has not been converted to 12-Volt. Interior was completely replaced including window cranks, door levers, headliner, upholstery, floor mat, glove box etc. Original steering wheel was restored but is not perfect showing some hairline cracks. Gas tank was removed, cleaned and new fuel sending unit installed. The glass is in great condition. All gauges in working condition. The choke lever is cosmetic and not connected. New carburetor is auto-choke.
Body & Paint
Solid frame was cleanedand finished with POR-15 then sprayed black.Any sheet metalrust was replaced with new metal. All body panels were Redi-Strip dipped to bare metal and the body work and paint professionally done by a local body shop. Included with the truck is a matching Fulton sun visor with all hardware for installation. The chrome bumpers are replacements. The front grill is original and has been re-chromed. All stainless trim was cleaned and buffed. The bed is made of solid oak with several coats of polyurethane to keep out the elements. All bed strips and hardware are stainless and new. The wheels were powder coated in a matching blue. The caps and rings are new. Tires are a tubed heavy duty with a fresh balance check. All rubber and hardware components are new along with the mirrors and emblems. I’ve installed a pair of backup lights from a 1950 Chevrolet Fleetline. My intention was to install a backup light kit but I will leave this to the next owner to decide.
The odometer shows 51,509 miles and I believe is original. I purchased this truck in Ohio in 2006 from a gentlemen in his late 70s. He had owned the truck since 1970, driving it less than 5500 miles and was able to give me the complete history.
Summary
I will let the pictures speak for themselves. This is a very nice frame off restored truck that is drivable and showable at car shows and cruise in nights. A real head turner, many hours, dollars, and parts went in to making this truck what you see today. It is an exceptional example of a 1950 Chevy 5-Window. I will include several boxes of misc. parts and a cover for storage with the truck. The truck is available for inspection by appointment only. My current work demands and downsizing plans don’t leave me much time to drive this truck so someone else should enjoy her. If you are serious and would like to speak with me ear-to-ear, email me to arrange a call to answer any questions I have not addressed in my description. Please note that I will respond to email during the evenings and will be out-of-town from 5/29-6/3. Now for the legal stuff.
