1948 Chevrolet/Chevy 4400/3100 Winch
Here is a true barn find! This was sitting in the back of a barn in western Kansas when I found it. We drug it out, rinsed off the dust, and underneath was a cool old '48 Chevy 4400.
This '48 Chevy was rigged up, apparently many years ago, as a winch truck. These were very popular around the farm to use for moving just about anything around, lifting equipment, etc. I assume this one was probably used for irrigation, as the poles are pretty long, to reach high in the air. It is also very handy, the way it was set up, to store the poles on the side of the truck when not needed. The pins, and snatch blocks needed, are in the side box and included with the sale. I'm sure someone will ask, but I'm guessing the winch to be aprox. a 20000lb winch. It is a PTO driven Braden winch.
The truck hasn't ran in many years. I put a coil and points in it to get spark and the engine will fire when you pour some gas down the carb, but that is as far as I have gotten. It's going to need fuel tank/lines cleaned, tune up such as plugs wires, etc.. I don't know exactly, but just plan on the typical stuff from a truck sitting for 10+ years.
The body, overall, appears very solid, although there are a couple of spots in the floorboards, which I included in the pictures. All glass is in the truck, but side windows are cracked. The truck was originally orange, but painted red many years ago. The battery box was relocated to under the hood, and power brakes have been added (condition unknown). The truck still has the original, or at least period correct, 216 6 cylinder engine. When I purchased this truck, the title had been lost, I have applied for a new title. I have all the paperwork, and will be receiving a title any day. I only mention this because although Kansas says 30 days to get a title, sometimes it takes a week or 2 longer. So - I guarantee a clear title in my name, but it might be a week or so after the auction. If you have any concerns with this, please check my feedback.
If you have any questions, feel free to text or call Cort at 620-786-5172. I will load this truck for you, free of charge, and I am o.k. with it sitting here a while, as long as it's paid for in a timely manner, and as long as you keep in touch. Thank you and Good luck!
