1969 Chevrolet Camaro Sport Coupe Description

1969 Chevrolet Camaro-I must sell this car-we are highly motivated-son is going to college.

My sister bought this car in Carlisle PA and brought it home to Concord NH in the Spring of 1992, it was her car as a senior in high school.Originally a red-on-red 327-2 bbl car with a Powerglide.She owned it until October 2000 when I bought it.Restored in 2006 by the body shop at the Chevrolet dealership where I worked in the parts department.Moved to Philadelphia in 2008 and has been kept in the garage since September 2012 but I continued to do yearly maintenance (oil changes, brake fluid flushes, etc).Recently registered and inspected to make sure there are no surprises, car runs and drives AWESOME.Got 18.7 mpg on the drive from New Hampshire to Philadelphia. I've done a few track days with it and it is very fun and very fast.

Car is set up as a modern tribute to the old Trans Am Camaros campaigned by Penske.

Technical details:

Engine:

Block: 1979 Chevrolet 400 small block, +0.040”.4-bolt splayed steel main caps.

Crank: Scat forged, internal balanced

Pistons/rods: Mahle 20cc dish, Scat H-beam.

Camshaft: Crower hydraulic roller 00569, 0.540”/0.560” 236/242 duration

Cylinder heads: Airflow Research 190, 2.02/1.60.Milled to get 60cc chamber, 10.75:1 compression ratio.Beehive valve springs matched to camshaft.

Rocker arms: CompCams Pro Magnum 1.52 ratio roller

Intake Manifold: Edelbrock RPM Air-Gap

Carb: 750 Street Demon

Distributor/Ignition: Davis Unified Ignition distributor with custom curve by Davis.Davis rev limiter with changeable modules.

Headers: Classic set of Appliance 1 5/8” primary tube.

Exhaust: Flowmaster 2.5” with single transverse muffler.

All machine work was performed by R&L Engines in Dover New Hampshire, final assembly by me.

Last dyno test made 361 hp/408 lb-ft.

Transmission:

1995 T56 six-speed sourced from a Pontiac Trans Am, completely overhauled and upgraded with Viper cast iron shift forks and later model carbon blocking rings.Hurst shifter.

Rear axle:

1978 Cadillac Seville 8.5” housing.Richmond Gear 4.10 ratio.

Brakes:

2000 Z28 4 wheel disc conversion: booster, master cylinder, calipers, etc.Multi-position proportioning valve next to shifter.Slotted rotors, Hawk HP pads.Car’s braking is impressive, both in feel and capability.

Suspension:

Front:

Guldstrand upper control arm modification.Eibach 500 in-lb front springs, Global West tubular lower control arms, Hotchkis 1.25” hollow sway bar.

Steering gear: 1988(?) IROC-Z quick ratio, if I remember right it's something like 12:1. There were a couple options, this was the good one.

Rear:

Guldstrand rear leaf with QA1 single-adjustable rear shocks.I have a small rear sway bar for it that is not installed but is included.

Wheels/Tires:

American Racing 16x8 Torque Thrust D, Toyo 245/50R16

Interior:

Autopower bolt-in 4 point roll bar, 5-point G-Force harness.

Corbeau seats with recline and fore/aft adjust, mounted as low as possible for use with a helmet.

Autometer Phantom white-faced gauges: speedometer, tachometer, oil pressure, water temp, fuel level, fuel pressure.

The car’s interior panels are all original to the car but were dyed black many years ago.Needs a headliner (not provided) and the c-pillar trims installed.

Sheetmetal:

US Body Source fiberglass cowl induction hood.Steel framed so it uses factory hood hinges.

New pieces used in restoration include fenders, inner fenders, doors, rocker panels, inner quarter panels, full quarter panels, floor panels.Car is 2006 Cadillac Dark Ming Blue Metallic with painted Galaxy Silver stripes.

Miscellaneous:

Optima battery mounted in trunk with exposed battery kill switch.I have some of the original trim: shark’s gills, lower rocker trim, etc. I liked the clean look without it and didn’t want to drill holes in new sheet metal when it was restored. Also have the original seat belts and a binder about 3 inches thick full of paperwork pertaining to the car.

Shortcomings:

The car has a couple little dents in the right front fender and left rear quarter panel from being kept in a garage with so little room. All could be removed by a paintless dent removal professional. As mentioned previously, needs a headliner and a couple interior trim pieces. Close up pictures of the hood are supposed to show some cracking of the fiberglass but it's nothing serious, I just want to be transparent.

Like I mentioned, we are highly motivated as our son is going to college in the Fall, so it's time for this car to find a new home. This car really looks great. In my wife's words, "Man, people love the Camaro".
