1973 k5 blazer 4x4
1973 Chevrolet Blazer Description
I am selling my 1973 K5 Blazer that I have owned for over 19 years. During this time I have made many changes. I rebuilt the 350 engine which included a slight boring, and the addition of a performance cam. It has about 10,000 miles at most since being rebuilt, runs fantastic and has a lot of power. I added an Edelbrock carburetor and new intake manifold. I added a new needle and seat in the carburetor which keeps the carburetor from stalling out at steep angles. I replaced the old exhaust system with JBA headers with no smog devices as this vehicle is old enough to NEVER REQUIRE SMOG!!! I installed a full time Detroit Locker in the rear end. If you are not familiar with these they make the truck awesome in off road conditions, but they handle a little funky on the streets until you get used to it. Body work was completed in 2012 which mostly involved removing body trim and filling the holes which were left from the rivets holding on the body trim and painting. New floor panels were also welded in. A Softopper soft top was added although the windows are no longer in great shape. Fortunately the worst one is on the drivers side which you don't look out of while driving. I contacted Softopper to find out what the new cloth part with windows would cost and they told me $500. The interior I had Rhinoliner sprayed in with the same color as the exterior. The paint color is the beige that is used on the new jeep wranglers so its easy to get for touch ups. It has a 4 inch lift with all new leaf springs and worn bushings were replaced. I replaced both driveshafts to match the lift. It used to have an automatic transmission but I swapped this out for a GM Muncie SM465 which is a 4 speed. The speeds are 1-3 plus a low “granny gear” for excellent rock crawling abilities. This is mated to a New Process 205 gear driven transfer case. The entire 2 and 4 wheel drivetrain works perfectly. I replaced the left rear axle and replaced all wheels including bearings and races. Front locking hubs were also replaced with new Warn locking hubs. There is some rust though on the steel wheels. Also I removed the front sway bar to get extra front wheel travel when rock crawling. The tires are in fair condition and about 1/2 way through their tread life. The steering works great and has a tilt wheel. I left the old automatic steering column as I wanted to keep the tilt option. The reverse lights need to be rewired to the manual transmission as the do not automatically come on when placed in reverse. They can be turned on by slightly turning the steering column. I know kinda odd but worked fine for my purposes. The dashboard has some cracking around the old mono speaker in the middle near the window but not really that noticeable and easily replace if you wanted. The speedometer and thus mileage indicator works intermittently so you may want to correct this. I really didn't care about it. The front seats are new Corbeau seats which can accommodate full harnesses. My intent was to complete the roll bar into a roll cage and change the lap belts to harnesses but never got around to that. The rear seat is in decent condition but not perfect. The truck has seatbelts for 5 people but no shoulder belts. The center console is spacious and convenient but homemade and maybe not so aesthetically pleasing but very easily exchanged for a nicer looking one. The gas cans, mounts Jack and the lockable storage box are included. The storage box can bolt down so you can keep your tools or whatever locked up. It has a new heater core and heat works really well. No air conditioning but the soft top windows roll up easily which is pretty fun to and gives you great visibility for a truck this size. The right passenger window only rolls halfway down but replacing the window elevator isn’t difficult. The reason I am getting rid of this is that in the last 19 years I have probably only put 10,000 miles on it. I got into sailing just don’t go off-road anymore. I’d love to sell it to someone who is serious into having a great truck for off-roading. Put this truck in the low range and low gear and it’ll crawl over anything. I pulled a Ford Expedition out of sand once that was laying on its under carriage with all four wheels spinning because it had dug in that far. It felt like nothing to drag it out. This truck looks, runs and sounds awesome. I get compliments whenever I drive it. Please contact me with any questions or if you would like to see it. I am open to reasonable offers.
