1968 Chevelle True SS 138 VIN number. This is originally a Baltimore plant produced car and was assembled the second week of February 1968. It was ash gold with a white vinyl top and a white interior. It was a factory 4 speed car with a split bench seat. This is a great find for someone who has the time to restore it. The floor pans, trunk pans and sheet metal are all original GM parts. This car has not been cut up and patched with aftermarket parts. All floor pans and trunk pans are solid with NO rust. Most of these cars you find will have been cut up and parts replaced with cheaper aftermarket parts.
The body is in great condition with some rust around the rear wheel well (a patch panel will fix it perfectly). All the rest of the body is perfect – no rust (yes even back by the rear window where most of these cars rust). I did replace the fenders and hood with aftermarket parts and have the original parts minus the inner fender wells. All the glass in the car appears to be original GM glass and in good condition. The motor is a 427 4 bolt main that is era correct but not numbers matching (of course). The motor is standard bore with no sleeves (how often do you find that?). It’s got an old school solid lifter cam with specs close to an L-88 motor. Aluminum intake with a 750 holley double pumper and HEI ignition. Nice Silla aluminum radiator and water pump. Roller rockers, etc, etc…. It has a Muncie 4 speed transmission that is not numbers matching and the rear is a 3:73 12 bolt posi-trak (it is numbers matching). The motor has not run in around 6 months and will require some type of pre-lube precautions before starting it. The fuel was racing fuel and has stabilizer added to it.
I have stripped all the floor pans, frame and firewall down to bare metal. The frame and floor pans where top coated with POR 15, the firewall was top coated with era correct black semi-gloss. The dash has been completely restored and is fully installed into the car. I even have the original AM radio.
The car runs and stops (drum brakes all around) under its own power, but will need a complete interior minus the dash and I do have a bench seat that is a correct match for the car that needs to be recovered. It will need full exhaust, tires and wheels and paint to be a completely restored street rod. I bought this car years ago with the intention of fully restoring it, unfortunately age and my health have caught up with me. I realize I will never be able to finish this car and want it to go to someone that can enjoy it. Pictures coming soon. I have LOTS of extra parts with the car, some are new aftermarket replacement parts and the rest are all original 1968 chevelle parts. I do have the interior door panels, etc but they are pretty worn and would only be good for knocking around.
