1980 Chevrolet Corvette Base Description
For sale:
Bought the car to flip, but got intrigued with the style and turning it into a modern machine.
Anyway, $16K later, it has Vansteel front and rear supension with adjustable coil overs, SSBC 4 piston brakes, Steeroids rack and pinon steering, super sticky BF Goodrich BF Super Force speed rated tires with light weight rims, brand new leather interior with 4" bolsters. I found an old school tuner to set up the supension geometry. Every bushing in the suspnsion and frame/body has been replaced, all the seals in the doors, windows, and T-tops are brand new. Engine and tranny are stock, engine burns no oil (would be a good candidate for a top end kit that would pop an extra hundred horses under the hood of these choked down small blocks).
Heres the bad, car originally had an over heat problem because some idiot thought the cure for a leaking heater core was stop leak. I replaced the heater core, rebuilt the radiator, and flushed the engine. Car runs factory cool now but needs to have the climate control finished (lots of new parts in place already.
Brakes work awesome, but engagement is +/- 1/8th of an inch on pedal, can be a bit spooky. Think its a problem with balance, I have a new adjustable bias valve for it. Pics make the paint look better than it is.
Bottom line, I have a vehicle that can out turn all but the best super/hyper/race cars. Put your modern engine and tranny in and the guys driving Ferraris and Lambos better watch out. I've played with this car for 3 years and proved that it could handle. I have other tools in the garage that need my attention, time to move on. I daily drive it in warm weather, so I know its reliable. Car would be awesome for track days or solo comps. I have a 4 point roll bar kit and harnesses for it.Car has always lived in Arizona, has absolutely no rust. I have been working on this car for 3 years and have yet to have a nut
that required anything more than a little extra force to remove.
Drove my Jaguar XKR on same roads today, couldnt believe how much slower around the corners it was compared to the vette, definitely proves just what a cornering beast the vette is.On Jul-04-17 at 07:46:56 PDT, seller added the following information:I added photos that show all the warts. I listed them pretty good in the text, but a picture is worth a thousand words.
On Jul-04-17 at 08:52:22 PDT, seller added the following information:This is in response to a question:Mechanically its fine, but there is NO climate control. Also, this car was built when the speed limit was 55, so at 75+mph the RPMs would be at an annoying level (about 3500). This is not a commuter car, I live in a small town and the little bit of stop and go traffic I get into is nerve racking because of the size of the brakes. Just touching them at 5mph results in an immeadiate head jerking stop. I built this car to drive curvy roads at fast speeds which it does very well. I'm just trying to be brutaly honest, I don't want someone to buy this car thinking they will use it every day as a big city commuter, this is a toy to be played with not a tool to be depended on.
