We sell a lot of "Glamour Era" Chevy pickup trucks like this 1972 example, but not many are the heavier-duty C20 models, which today we might call a -ton. Same great looks, but with a long bed and a stout 454 big block under the hood, this one doesn't mind a little heavy lifting now and then and still looks great when you take it to the local cruise night. The icy blue and white paint scheme looks appropriate on the early '70s truck, and it was nicely applied a few years ago. Despite the slightly heavier-duty underpinnings, the bodywork doesn't look like it had to do much hard labor or else someone spent a lot of time and effort getting it into shape, because it looks great. The simple lines of these trucks have aged rather well and today they are one of the hottest trucks on the collector market, with great parts availability and modern performance, all under some stylish skin. Good gaps and lots of time block sanding those long, long bed sides means that this one holds up under scrutiny, and unlike many of its contemporaries, it hasn't been customized or altered in any serious way. Nice details abound, including twin chrome mirrors, a great-looking set of bumpers, and tinted windows for comfort. The upscale Cheyenne trim included the woodgrained inserts on the lower moldings and tailgate, which really make these trucks look upscale. The bed in good condition, just right if you want to put it to work, and it includes a heavy-duty diamond-plate tool box.The beautiful blue vinyl interior is a nice look and the Cheyenne trim includes the custom embossing on the seat covers that looks like tooled saddle leather. Well, that was the intent, anyway. Matching door panels and a set of replacement carpets look to be in good order with only minor signs of age, and the steering wheel has been upgraded to a custom wood-rimmed unit that looks great. Original factory gauges still monitor the engine, while a big tach was added to the column, which you will also note shows four forward gears instead of the usual three. An Am/FM/cassette stereo lives in the center of the dash and you'll note that this is a factory A/C truck, and yes, it's working which is always a nice find.V8 power is a big reason why trucks remain so popular, and the ZZ454 crate motor provides plenty of grunt to make this truck feel lively. Thanks to FAST fuel injection, it starts, idles, and drives extremely well, with big block power that never seems fussy, and it's only got 3000 miles on the build so it's still quite fresh. A big chrome open-element air cleaner keeps everything looking suitably low-key under the hood, but with a few chrome dress-up items you won't mind popping the hood now and then. A custom serpentine belt drive system includes all new accessories and ceramic-coated long-tube headers feed a rumbling dual exhaust system. A heavy-duty 700R4 4-speed automatic transmission and heavy-duty rear end mean this truck doesn't mind the heavy stuff if you want to head to Home Depot this weekend and the tidy undercarriage suggests a lifetime in a warm climate and not the rust belt. Flashy chrome wheels look great and suitably beefy on the C20 and carry 245/75/16 Yokohama truck tires that fill the fenders perfectly.Documentation includes a ton of build receipts, the original Protect-O-Plate, and an owner's manual, this Chevy C20 gets all the important stuff right.
