1954 CORVETTE BARN FIND
1954 Chevrolet Corvette Description
Barn Find '54 Corvette needs a new home & lease on life. Disassembled & stored in semi-enclosed shed for 40 years. Car has a competition past as indicated by remnants of a roll bar sticking out of the notched decklid, the coil over rear shocks & traction bars as well as an SCCA dashplacqueseeming to indicate participation in an international rally between San Antonio Texas and MontereyMexico in 1959. No drivetrain but floor has been cut for a manual trans and it appears a small block likely has been the engine bay at some point. Chassis has much surface rust and scale.
The good: Windshield frame is there and windshield is intact. Most exterior trim and bumpers are there (see photo. If it's not in the pic, I don't have it). Original Steering wheel is there. All gauges including tach are still in the dash. both seat backs are there. Mostly all interior pieces are there including the dash extensions, door pulls, glove boxes, the arm rests and the waterfall trim Both white metal headlight buckets are there also (one is cracked).
The bad: Convertible top frame is missing (Interfered with the roll bar, I guess), no side curtains (who needed side curtains without a top?) One door will need some work in the star wheel area. No lower seat cushions. Driver's seat frame and track mechanism pretty rough but likely salvageable. Taillights are there but both have small holes in the lenses. Vin plate is also long gone.
Car has a clean NJ title but the vin number is not correct to a '54 Corvette, even though the car was titled with that number at least as far back as 1970. I have copies of both the 1970 title and a signed bill of sale from the person who owned the car since that date.
Someone was also nice enough to take a grinder to every part of the body aft of the doors except the trunk lid and ground through a number of places (again, check the photos). Hood, trunk & doors as well as the nose (minus the obvious left front collision damage) are actually pretty good. There are also additional holes in the fiberglass in the trunk & on the firewall. Check the photos.
Seen a number of '54 Corvettes up for auction but a lot of them are bare or near bare shells that have been stripped of their expensive parts. This car can save it's new owner a lot of time & expense in trying to hunt down most of those parts. If you can handle the fiberglass work this could be the car for you.
*PLEASE NOTE THAT THE ORIGINAL EXHAUST EXTENSIONS AND RADIO IN THE PHOTOS ARE NOT PART OF THIS ACTION. (They are going on my own '54)
