Engine rebuilt by Kath Auto with its standard bore and original pistons in 1990. One head had a crack, so another set of rebuilt Oval Ports were installed (with roller rockers). Original heads go with sale. The mild cam is a torque monster, easily chirps the tires yet has a great idle. I’ve enjoyed it but never really beat on it.
There is only a small oil leak by fuel pump gasket up front, but otherwise the engine is clean.
Turbo 400 Transmission
Original TH400 was rebuilt ($700) after it was leaking extensively and needed a good cleaning. Stamp codes all match and a new stock stall converter was installed. Rebuilt driveshaft with u-joints and new transmission mount.

Original brass big block radiator was stored. It never overheated, but I wanted to keep it that way. With the new DeWitts aluminum radiator and dual Spal fan conversion it runs cool as can be.

I know the owner history back through 1979. I am the third owner since 1979.
’79-‘88
’88-‘08
’08- present
Bought from an old friend of the family, you could call him my second grandfather. He bought it in 1988. I was in junior high at the time, and after I saw it knew I wanted to buy it someday. He called one day and I had to sell my 1969 Malibu to get the dream car I wanted. It wasn’t cheap, but it’s an original numbers-matching LS5 454 365HP with TH400 transmission car.
I took off the side pipes and had a shop install a reproduction Eckler’s 2-1/2” exhaust system with factory style mufflers, mounts, and stainless tips. I installed 10" bolts to lower rear, it scraps from time to time. Tips could have been better centered.
Original and now-expensive carb has been stored in a box for decades. It runs a replacement Holley spread-bore (bought new) - yes a Holley. It’s a common Corvette carb upgrade for ease of tuning and way better performance.
Distributor with mechanical tach cable is still in use, though it was upgraded to electronic ignition instead of points.
The best part about this car is everything that has been done to it could be converted back to NCRS stock standards if you want. I’ve kept everything I took off the car, including the original PO2 Deluxe hubcaps.
Everything I’ve done in last 9 years was to add to the driving enjoyment, but never change the stock look.
It was repainted in early ‘80s and could use another paintjob. The driver’s door was also damaged 20- years ago and replaced at a Corvette restoration shop, primered red. Couldn’t match the old paint. Original door goes with sale. As for the factory double-bulge hood, it had those cut outs in it. I have the pieces that were cut out so if you wanted to put it back to stock, it’s easy to do so.
Never dreamed I’d want to sell it. My life has changed. This isn’t a family car and I’ve decided to pass it on to the next person who dreamed of owning a true big block Vette. It’s not perfect, but runs and drives great.
I’ve put my heart and soul into this ride, learning a ton about restoring Corvettes. They are a challenging car to work on. I’ve changed a heater core and radiator in this air-conditioned big block Vette, something no man should have to endure.
I had this Vette in the shop from last Thanksgiving till May, slowly rebuilding and checking off to-do list. Small things needed fixing such as the horn never worked and steering column was loose. Now everything works! That includes headlights and fans and wiper cowl stays down when started. We spent months tracing vacuum leaks and fixing wrong things here and there, until now it’s great.
I’ve been driving this car non-stop for 2 months with only minor issues, mainly from sitting for so long the last six months. A slight power steering leak from hose and I had to wrap the fuel line because the heater hose was right up against it and too much heat transferred into fuel line.
Only things that don’t work on car:clock, alarm, and rear window defogger. Original jack and lug wrench is also gone. Passenger door is missing lock knob (repo knob doesn’t fit correctly).
This is a very original big block Corvette with all matching-numbers, all engine, transmission and rear axle. Even with all the downtime to restore things over the years, it still was driven a lot. All it really needs is a paint job.
Thank you for looking. I have a 100% feedback score with many compliments to my shipping and professionalism. I do not flip hundreds of cars or parts for profit like eBay dealers.
