The V8 is matted to a new eight-speed automatic unit with paddle shifters.Instead of fitting the Vette with a dual-clutch unit, the automaker's engineers worked to give the eight-speed gearbox with world class shift-response times.GM says that upshifts - at wide-open-throttle - are executed at eight-hundredths of a second quicker than those in the dual clutch-equipped Porsche 911! Despite boasting two extra gears, the transmission takes up the same amount of space as the six-speed automatic unit currently used in the Corvette Stingray and the eight-cog unit weighs about 8 pounds less than the six-speed.
