2001 Chevrolet Astro Safari AWD Passenger Van 4.3L camper family NO RESERVE!
2001 Chevrolet Astro Description
Sadly, it seems that I must let my project go, after the recent storm damage it appears that replacing the roof on my house is much more important for my family right now, my loss is very much YOUR GAIN!
In summary, my plans for this Astro was to build a camper/conversion vehicle, like a mini motorhome, voyager, hunting, camping, safari, or off-road vehicle...if you look around online you'll find some examples that people have built.. I want to emphasize this is the AWD/4WD model, these are rare and hard to find!
this is a passenger model that can seat up 7 people with 2 rows of seats, or dirt bikes, mountain bikes, hunting gear, kayak, paddle boards, surfboard, etc etc etc you name it! endless possibilities
History:vehicle was diagnosed with a head gasket problem about a year ago, so I had to make the decision whether to do the expensive repair or to let it go... I decided to invest the money to fix it up because it can be used for so many different things!I had the engine replaced at 160k miles on the odometer, work was done by a legitimate engine shop, not by my uncle in the backyard if you get what I'm saying.. the engine that was installed had around 50k miles on it (the lowest mileage one they could find) and the vehicle computer/odometer was programmed accordingly...
since I was investing in replacing the engine, I went ahead and replaced all gaskets, seals, fluids, spark plugs, water pump, belts, hoses, radiator, battery etc etc the list goes on and on and on.. basically every single maintenance item was replaced, with the intention of keeping this vehicle for many many years...
so once all the engine was tuned up and running strong, I then decided to invest into the undercar parts, replaced front brake pads, rotors, calipers, and both front wheel bearings.. transfer case and transmission are also serviced
now that it runs strong, and drives great, A/C serviced and blowing ice cold, I then decided to put on some new tires, took off the weak tiny 215/75R15 factory tires, and installed top of the line 235/75R15 General Grabber all terrain tires being that it is 4wd, it handles amazing and it gives the vehicle a wider footprint & very much needed couple more inches of ground clearance... no problems at all and handles the way it should, the ABS light does come on because of the larger tires rolling circumfrence is different than the factory computer settings.. very simple fix is to purchase any power programmer (Hypertech, Superchips) and you can input the new tire size diameter & problem solved plus you get the added power from the programmer, win win situation...
Summary:I invested money into this vehicle like I was going to keep it for a long time, didn't cut corners, did everything right the way it should be done.. the last step of this project was the cosmetics... roof rack, brush guards, lights, things like that.. you can use this as a family van or build it up anyway you want. It runs strong and drives great.. all the hard work has been done
