1970 Chevrolet Chevelle SS 454 Description

You don't see too many examples of muscle car awesomeness like this one! Already mechanically decked out to the nines from the time it rolled off the assembly line floor, this 1970 Chevelle SS454 combines some well-chosen upgrades that up the ante on its already impressive performance with a factory-correct, time capsule-like appearance and arriving with its build sheet intact as evidence of just how special it is.
It doesn't take long at all for you to realize you're beholding something special when you see this car. With its black cherry exterior, broad white racing stripes that run down the length of its cowl induction hood and trunk, and an impressive, wet-looking clearcoat, it looks as if it's coming to you straight out of a display ad from its time that's been magically brought to life, but with a color so vivid it could be attainable only in the present. The thoroughness of this restoration is really impressive and it shows from all angles - ultra-clean front and rear bumpers, pristine badging throughout and unblemished, clear glass. Even the headlight bezels shine with conviction. From front to back, you can see that everything has been aligned with precision and care - the doors open and close with ease and all the panels show impressive, uniform lines. Appropriately enough for a car already as special as this one, its stance has been left alone and it's for the better. This SS sprang to life equipped for asphalt action and it needs no help underscoring that point.
You'll find that the bar remains raised as you look inside. The black vinyl bench seats in front and back sit on a bed of matching black carpet and look so fresh, as if they are awaiting their first occupants. On either side, the black vinyl door panels are looking their best and sit nice and flush. The headliner has been restored to its optimum state while retaining its stock appearance. The manual windows roll up and down without a hitch and all lights throughout, as well as the blinkers, work as intended. New and improved technology blends with the stock look that runs throughout inside, and as you peer through the three spoke Chevy steering wheel that bears the signature bowtie in its center, you'll see a set of Cobalt gauges to monitor voltage, temperature and oil pressure sitting just below a factory cluster that remains fully functional in its own right.
This isn't just an SS that's sporting a larger engine, but a truly rare and properly documented SS454 from the start. The rarest of the rare, in fact. The date code correct 454 in this Chevelle received attention in the displacement department and this already formidably sized powerplant has been stroked out to a jaw dropping 496 cubic inches. A host of other upgrades have been added to ratchet things up even more in the power department, including an Edelbrock intake manifold, Williams 4-barrel carb, a set of aftermarket headers and a generously-sized radiator to keep running temperature down. For "hood up" impact, chrome valve covers, braided fuel lines and fresh hoses throughout have also been added. Despite all that monstrous power, the engine, which is mated to a TH400 3-speed automatic transmission, fires right up and runs with impressive smoothness. It's just one of the advantages that comes with displacement - with all those cubic inches sitting under the hood, there's really no need for an overly-aggressive cam to eek out more power. With power steering, power brakes and air conditioning, this is a pavement-scorcher with drivability in more every day conditions. It sits appropriately attired in a set of Chevy SS rims wrapped in Invader Radial G/T tires.
