2002 Chrysler Town & Country Description

2002 Chrysler Town & Country Limited AWD minivanVery nice condition, only 91k miles
This is my wife's minivan, we bought it in 2010. My son is now 17 years old and we no longer need a van. My wife wants a nice sedan again. This van has served us well, as I am sure it will for you also.
I tend to give way too much information, but that is how you know what you are getting, no surprises, at least none that I am personally aware of.
Description of Autocheck findings: On other cars, I have found these to be inaccurate at times... but ... this is what I know. Car was in a front end impact when it had 4900 miles on it, reported "right front impact with another vehicle - airbag deployed (very expensive at the time) - slight damage reported" - this gave the car the rebuilt title. Car was sold to someone else, then to the elderly couple that I bought it from when it had 22k something on it. They lived in Winston-Salem close to me. Sometime in 2009 he ran into the back of someone, and yet again had to buy a new bumper cover and headlight and probably a few other bits and pieces. In late 2010, the couple were in their early nineties and decided to stop driving and sold the van to me. I have had the bumper cover off doing the A/C work and under the car several times and there is no evidence of major trauma, and no evidence in any way the car drives.
This is a Southern car and has no rust anywhere... well, almost... on the folded ridge where you jack up the car, there is a slight amount of surface rust where the leading edge has contacted a jack or two. Looking underneath, all the frame rails and floorboards arestill some kind of greenish primer, and clean, kinda crazy to me, someone who grew up in Michigan, but essentially, from the bottom, this looks like it did when new.
Garage kept until we got a hold of it, the rubber and much of the paint is very nice, a few nicks and scrapes here and there, but nothing unexpected in a 14 year old car. The top of one of the doors has some clear coat coming off, but that would be easily repainted if you were tall enough that it bothered you. The rear bumper cover is not the original, I messed that one up. it is in decent shape but does have a small cut in it above the hitch. There is two vertical scratches on the tailgate, the previous owners opened the hatch and it contacted the hinges on their garage door.As they say, this is an excellent looking 10 foot car... maybe 8 feet.
The pictures I have listed were taken after some cleanup, butI am not finished, also shows the windshield wiper motor area uncovered and the chrome rub strip on the drivers door removed... that strip was discolored on the original, and I have a new one I am putting on it. Also will give the interior a good cleaning.
Interior: Blue leather and Alcantara, heated front seats, even the leather wrapped steering wheel is in good condition... all thanks to Lexol leather products. Four captains chairs with powered consoles between them - the second one I grabbed from the junk yard and it is tan in color, but still useful. carpet is in fine condition as are the carpeted mats. The headliner (typical) is falling down, I have it cleverly attached to the ceiling with those screwy button things your grandmother used to keep the arm protectors on her living room furniture. Works pretty well, and will postpone that bit of interior work indefinitely. Rear seat is a split bench, and all 4 rear seats remove fairly easily, still a handful, but not too bad. in the rear is a pop up containment contraption that holds bags and whatever else you need to separate, and it folds flat when not needed.
A few years ago, the A/C failed and it was a bad condenser, I replaced it, along with the receiver drier and some valve thingys and vac'ed the system and refilled it with that new ultra synthetic Freon... the A/C is the coldest I have ever felt... too cold maybe, but that can't be a bad thing when it is adjustable... both front and rear A/C and heat work great. HVAC has three zones: Driver, Passenger, and rear.
Driveline: Engine is in great condition, always changed the oil properly, uses a little oil, perhaps 1 qt/2k miles depending on how it is driven, typical as I understand it. Smooth running, belts make the same noises as all other Caravan/T&C's I have heard, kinda a little clicking... everything is tight. There is a tensioner/belt kit that is supposed to be an improvement, but it isn't a failure issue, just a little noisy sometimes.
All Wheel Drive: Tremendous in the snow and even ice, nice distribution of weight in this vehicle, never gets stuck. Also nice in the rain, even turning off a side street with the wheel turned, just punch it and hang on - you will pull out into traffic fast with NO wheel spin, try that in any other front-drive minivan - just make sure you are pointed where you want to go, this vehicle moves out fast.
Suspension: Front end clunks a little depending on the bumps in the road, I have had it checked out and nothing is loose to the point of needing replacement, yet... just the occasional noise.
Steering rack: This is the worst thing about the car, when it is cold outside and you first start it up, there is a valve that does not open all the way and the steering is really stiff for a moment. Rev the engine and move the van, and it unsticks and is fine. This generally does not happen in the summer, an annoyance, but not too bad. I have replaced the reservoir and all the fluid with Lucas products and it has been much better. Someday (won't they all?) it could use a rack to fix this, but it does not leak.
Naturally, getting this van ready for sale, I have done some work to it... the ignition switch had gotten a little balky, so I am replacing it. Fresh oil change. The wiper motor, is noisy, so I am replacing it. The battery is new. NEW windshield with the defroster lines under the windshield wipers - what a difference that makes!! Hella High performance 2.0 H83300102 headlight bulbs, big improvement.
Tires have about 4k on them, but the left front has less than 500 miles - took some metal to the scrapyard in the trailer and punctured the left front tire = $35 scrap metal value - $95 tire.... won't do that again.
Nice pioneer stereo with USB and mini jack input, also have original radio that works with the in-dash changer if you want it.
Power side doors and rear, operated from inside or remote. Nice heavy duty hitch,
Drive it anywhere... approx. 22-24 highway gas mileage
Will add more if I think of anything, meanwhile ask any questions you have.
If you live up north and tired of rusty hulks, this is a great buy, low miles, AWD, great interior, comfortable ride, keep your new car in the garage this winter.
LISTED LOCALLY UNTIL THE FIRST BID!
