EBAY FEEDBACK
Ebay feedback is important . I have received xlnt comments from others whom have bought cars from us and most of the cars we listed have sold prior to auctions scheduled end date to buyers that used the Buy It Now . I am not a dealer . I am merely selling off a large collection of cars we have had for years and some of our relatives cars that don't have an Ebay account.
PRICE
The reserve is less than the Buy It Now price and we are going to sell the car . I have no interest in rerunning it over and over trying to squeeze every last dollar out of it but I won't give it away either.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION
First of all we love this car and are the second owners . The only reason we are selling it is because we bought a brand new vehicle that suits ore purposes better at this time . We bought it 9 years ago from my friends mother with only 53,000 miles on it . It has never been smoked in . Most of the miles are freeway miles . It drives xlnt and goes straight as an arrow and doesn't drift or wander even at autobahn speeds . It stays straight when you let go of the steering wheel and hit the brakes . There is absolutely zero play in the steering . It has always been in Southern California and has never been near the beach or driven in the snow so there is no surface rust or rust holes . The engine, floor pans, and wheel wells are clean enough to eat off of as can be seen in the photos.
OPTIONS
Power steering, power windows, air conditioning, cruise control, tilt steering wheel, fold down rear seat, AM/FM stereo.
STATE EMISSIONS TEST AND ENGINE CONDITION
The last time we had an emissions test done was around 3,000 miles ago at which time it was far below the average readings and easily passed . This is an indicator of the overall engine condition.
CHECK ENGINE LIGHT
All cars after around 1974 have a check engine light which is part of the emissions requirement . This light must come on when the key is turned to the run position with the engine off . It must go out within 5 seconds once the engine is turned started . If it does not do one of these two things it will NOT pass an emissions test in many states and could easily end up costing upwards of $1,000.00 to fix the problem . The light on this vehicle works properly.
SUSPENSION AND STEERING
All the ball joints, tie rod ends, and wheel bearings are tight and there is no clunks when hitting bumps or small pot holes etc.
ENGINE
It always starts right away and does not smoke when first starting it or when flooring it while accelerating . It does not vibrate and runs as smooth as a Swiss watch.
TRANSMISSION
It shift as good as it did the day it was new and the overdrive works as good as new.
BRAKES
I don't remember how many miles are on the pads but they work as good as new and the discs are not grooved from excessive wear and they don't make any noise or pull to either side when braking.
TIRES
Decent and useable but not like new.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT
I washed it off because it was dusty after 89,000 miles and it is now nearly spotless . The plating on the hardware and other parts still looks nearly new and the paint still looks nearly new . It still has the factory decals and grease pencil markings.
ENGINE TEMPERATURE
Some PT Cruisers have extreme overheating problems so it is important to verify if one you are interested in has this problem or not . The problem is usually a bad head gasket which costs from $600.00 to $1200.00 to replace . The head sometimes also needs to be surfaced which costs around $50.00.
My wife and I just took ours for a test drive since it has been sitting for a couple months . It was 76 degrees outside and it took around 8 minutes to get up to operating temp . I then turned the air conditioner on and let it idle for 15 minutes and the temperature gauge went up 1/16" at which point the fan came on and it went back down which is what it should do.
We then took it for a 20 mile test drive on the freeway and in town with the ac on and the needle went up 1/6" on a 1/2 mile long uphill on the freeway then came back down when we reached level ground which is what it has always done since we have had it . This was also with 200 additional lbs in the back.
Even when a PT Cruiser cooling system was brand new, the engine temp could run higher than normal in very hot climates, especially if the A/C was on, therefore I wouldn't suggest loading one up with 4 or 5 people and several cases of beer then heading out to Death Valley or the Colorado river in the middle of summer with the A/C going full blast.
COOLING SYSTEM UPGRADES
There are simple upgrades that can be done to these vehicles that will prevent them from running hot providing the head gasket is good but these are really only necessary if you drive in temps above maybe 90 with the A/C on for a long distance . One upgrade which is one of the best is to get a larger (thicker) radiator . They are available on Ebay for only $65.00 . Another is to get an Airtex or Gates water pump . The impeller is designed like the turbo water pump impeller which will flow more water and have less cavitation and are only $25.00 - $30.00.
INTERIOR
With the exception of the carpet which is just a little dingy, in the front, the rest of the interior is nice . The front seats had covers most of the time so the original covers are very nice with no obvious wear marks or stains . The front seat foam is not compressed at all from having heavy people sitting in them . No one ever sat in the back so they are like new . Children have never been in the car so there aren't hand prints and candy goo everywhere.
PAINT AND BODY
There are no accidents we are aware of and the paint is original . With the exception of the rear hatch, it still has a decent shine and the clear coat is not lifting . The rear hatch is pretty faded . There are a couple typical scratches mainly on the front corners of the front bumper and a small one on the drivers door.
There are a couple very small dings on the passenger door and hood by where the hood prop rod goes . There are no dents.
There is ZERO rust.
AIR CONDITIONING TEMPERATURE
Some people say their ac blows "ice cold" but I put a thermometer in front of the vent for 2 minutes then photographed it to PROVE ours is ice cold . It blows at 42 degrees at an idle and 40 degrees while driving and this is with 76 degrees outside . If you don't think this is very cold, just stick your head in your refrigerator for 5 minutes and see how cold that is . This is so cold that I have to take my hand away from the vent after around 5 minutes.
CALIFORNIA BUYERS
The California registration has expired.
INSPECTION
We are available to show the car virtually anytime during the day and encourage you to come see it or have it inspected . If you send an inspector we will make him drive the car to verify the engine temp and driving condition . We live only a few feet from hiking trails and a few miles from Lake Elsinore where they rent Jet Skis and boats so feel free to come over and bring your kids if you have any and make a day of it.
